Who likes the pirate metal!?

Cmon nobody has it better than the guys of alestorm, verbal deception, or even running wild that play some of the baddest metal around. And another band thats pretty good.. you know scallywag
(they are on myspace) is an up and coming pirate band that not many people have probably heard of.

So lets hear it do you love or hate these bands, and does anyone know any other kickass pirate metal bands?!

Surell 01-12-2009 09:46 PM

This sound like the most brutal form of music ever since... any genre.

WWWP 01-13-2009 01:39 AM

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me?

Janszoon 01-13-2009 01:48 AM

Holy crap I thought the OP was a joke until I googled Alestorm!

jackhammer 01-13-2009 04:16 AM

Pirate Metal? How much is an album, thirty pieces of silver? Is the keyboardist a parrot? Whatever next supermarket metal especially created for those trips to the grocery store?

Fave tracks:

Rock Lobster- B52's
Brown Sugar - Rolling Stones
TV Dinners -ZZ Top
Eggs & Sausage- Tom Waits
Bangers & Mash - Radiohead
Pulling Mussels From A Shell - Squeeze
Soup Is Good Food - Dead Kennedys
Chicken - The Cramps

Doesn't hold a candle to ninja metal.

jackhammer 01-13-2009 05:25 AM

Do they dart out chucking ninja stars at you during the performances?

Piss Me Off 01-13-2009 05:42 AM

My metalhead friends love Alestorm. I avoid them all i can.

the thought of a pirate metal band intrigues me. i'll have to check out a couple of these and get back to you.

Janszoon 01-13-2009 04:49 PM

So do these bands sing about all the guy on guy action that happened on pirate ships or is that not metal enough?

Mojo 01-13-2009 05:06 PM

I have never even heard of Pirate metal! I would have thought that I would have at least heard the term before!

So what makes Pirate Metal? I'm assuming the lyrical content?

anticipation 01-13-2009 05:12 PM

maybe wenches.

Inuzuka Skysword 01-13-2009 05:14 PM

I like Running Wild...

jackhammer 01-13-2009 05:15 PM

You have to wear an eye patch and watch Pirates Of The Carribean when you listen to it.

Scurvy is optional.

Dude, I was totally about to say that. Though I think it'd be more like Ninja Punk/Indie. Ninjas never bite off pirates.

Sneer 01-13-2009 06:33 PM

Pirate metal. I've now heard it all.

Far too many accordians.

Are accordians strictly pirate though?

Fruitonica 01-14-2009 04:10 PM

I think one of the pirates is playing an accordion in Peter Pan, I can sort of remember Hook getting annoyed and shooting him...

No because it's in all that LOTR style metal crap too.

Heh well I know no references but I can easily picture pirate metal with an abundance of accordians so I think I get what you mean.

Im just wondering what defines pirate metal. It would appear that a lot of Viking metal is defined largely by the lyrical content or else it would just be melodic/death metal.

boo boo 01-15-2009 09:07 AM

First viking metal and now this?

When they finally invent samurai metal let me know, that I might actually check out.

Actually it does exist. Check out Zenithrash, Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement, and Mononofu.

ikvat 01-15-2009 12:28 PM

It's incredible but true. I lost tree minutes of my life to listen to that ****ing band. :bonkhead:
