NIN vs. Tool which you like better?

its weird, overall i like tool better, but i like NIN's music better. tool - i like opiate in particular. NIN- pretty hate machine- one of the greatest CDs i will ever own!

Raine 11-30-2004 10:21 PM

This is a tough choice because NIN's closer is one of my many 'sex anthems' and Tool's Sober also falls into that category.

It all boils down to which one I like the most and I think I'll go with NIN because they are a versatile group. In comparison to Tool anyways.

demon 12-01-2004 04:32 AM

of course tool---->better than NIN but im not mean its the better ever or its my favorite

Autistic 12-01-2004 11:18 PM

I say tool, because i could never get into NIN's songs. the songs put out by tool to me are so different from the other rock/metal groups around. its like every member of the band is playing their own song each time, and even whn the timing is different from the drums to the guitar and bass, they play it perfectly and it always sounds awesome. they sound so powerful even with the simplest guitar riffs..

bye the way, i posted about a few songs i cant find ANYWHERE and they came from a mix cd that was supposedly all tool. please go check it out if you can.

TheBig3 12-05-2004 04:19 PM

TOOL, and also, to raine, your a tool for trying to be suave with your "sex anthems." What is that, the music you walk into the bedroom with, stfu.

No. Those are songs that are about sex. stuff like adina howard, 'Closer' by NIN and a few others. You'd be surprised the stuff me and my friends listen to in our spare time.

And I don't need music to walk into a bedroom. There's always music playing in my room. :finger:  :p:

And what is this?
Is today raine on Raine's parade or something? I really should just go out and buy a nutter butter. but I'm too lazy

Over and out.

Oi_To_The_World 12-05-2004 05:02 PM

^^^ wow i hope all music lovers can appreciate NIN and TOOL to be more than just musicians with sex anthems. its ironic how closer was still one of NIN's more commercial songs....personal fav: 'sin' off of pretty hate machine. that's my "sex anthem"

KoRnkid69 12-05-2004 06:55 PM

I wanna **** you like an animal
I wanna feel you from the inside out
You bring me closer to god. . .

This was the song when I was younger. I listened to it almost every day back when I was 11 I think I was.

Yeah well I like Tool and I like NIN. I just happen to like NIN a little bit more.

Oi_To_The_World 12-05-2004 07:32 PM

^that song is being over-sold here. what other NIN songs do you like?

iam not a big fan of tool or NIN but if i had to choose, NIN. :)

kornslayer 12-06-2004 08:34 AM

Nin no doubt Trent Reznor rocks :ar_15s:

Autistic 12-06-2004 11:33 PM

i just thought of this right now..
Tool is like fine wine, getting better with age..
when opiate came out, they tested the water. "Opiate" was good, "Sweat" i would have loved to hear "Cold and Ugly" and "Jerk-Off" recorded in a studio. for a first album, it was OK. then comes Undertow. The first 3 songs to me sound exactly what Tool feels. Intolerance, Prison Sex, and the Sober, which is still one of their best singles. most of that album was well written.
Next up is Aenima. Title track a hit, 46 & 2 a true show of the nature of Tool, stinkfist and Jimmy awesome songs..
then like in a finale comes Lateralus
arguably Tools best album. its like a continuous story..
opens with a great Bass lead intro, solid song.
~ Wear the grudge like a crown.. <--spells it right there
Eon Blue Apocalypse a build to The Patient, as much a song writeen for lyrics as much as the guitar.
song 4 was one of their little experiments called Mantra
Schism... enough said. some could say it was overrated, but if you knew how to play that song, there are a few almost unnoticeable differences that make it so unique its not even funny, like the main guitar riff isnt unique enough.
Parabol and Parabola, have to be played hand in hand, such a powerful song. the lyrics in both songs seem to describe exactly what the guitars are playing.
Ticks and Leeches is their albums "angry" song.
Lateralus, title track. could be one of their more popular songs and deserves to be.
my pick of the album is songs 10 11 and 12, which are supposed to be like the climax of the album. Disposition is the build to Reflection which is the build to Triad. they need to be heard to understood, words wont do them justice.
Faiip de Oiad the last "song" is like that thing you remember of a dream right before you wake up, you dont understand it.
if it isnt obvious, i completely fking love Tool, im constantly listening to them, picking out the guitar parts, teaching myself their songs..
...i think i should stop talkign now... that was long.. sorry

laff.. that should read "as much a song written for lyrics as the guitar..."

Oi_To_The_World 12-07-2004 08:54 AM

^ i think tool went off and on- opiate and aenima were my two favorites, not so much lateralus or undertow. Frankly, i was very disappointed when i first heard lateralus; it took me several weeks/months to appreciate it for what its worth. I think undertow starts out good, but loses it quickly. im not saying these two albums suck, because i dont think i'll ever say that about a tool album.

Autistic 12-07-2004 11:29 AM

i see what you mean..i think the reason why i like lateralus the most was because its the album that got me hooked on Tool. Aenima was their first real full length album and it was good, Opiate was more of an EP than an album. the first 3 or 4 songs on Undertow are great, but like you say the end wasnt as good. the only song on the second half of Undertow that i reallly like is 4Degrees.
and no, you cant say that any tool album sucks, cause u know they dont

Oi_To_The_World 12-07-2004 04:41 PM

^you know, tool is supposedly working on a new album. should be interesting to see how that turns out

franscar 12-07-2004 05:54 PM

Nine Inch Nails.

No. Tool. Yep. Tool.

No. Actually, Nine Inch Nails. Definitely.

Tool. Tool. Final answer.

Autistic 12-07-2004 09:38 PM

^^i think its about time they bring another album out. i understand that Maynard was busy making the Thirteenth Step with APC, and their lead guitarist is Tools guitar tech.
is there a site you know of that has this info, like where did you find this out.

Oi_To_The_World 12-07-2004 10:03 PM

^ meh my source is another crazy tool fan, so i guess that isnt so reliable, but he said that he read it in an interview. i googled "tool new album" and the first thing i got was from mtv.com dated in april interestingly. i guess they're trying to space out the APC new album (and subsequent tours) with this upcoming tool album- i predict spring/summer 2005.

but isnt APC's lead guitarist now twiggy, ex-marilyn manson guitarist. or is it james iha (ex-smashing pumpkin)? i dunno.

crzyderanged1125 12-15-2004 07:32 PM

damn....thats a hard one to choose...i really like NIN b/c they have interesting lyrics, but i think overall i like tool better... they have a harder style in rock....but anyways, they both truly rock

Oi_To_The_World 12-15-2004 09:05 PM

reznors a f*cking genius. he produced the good marilynmanson albums - antichrist, portrait, smellslikechildren

anyone hear tapeworm's sh*t? its danny lohner and maynard, but its over now.

Twiggy plays bass, Iha plays guitar. They are both in APC now.

ish 12-16-2004 07:14 PM

i think tool is a better band, i've never been much of a NIN fan

*Josie* 12-16-2004 08:43 PM

I can't decide, there both good bands

considering both those guys are musically talent as f*ck, not to mention maynard, you would think their last album would be pretty good. i was disappointed, to follow up the 12th step with a cover album was a bad decision.

im lookin forward to danny lohner from NIN and danny carey from tool to release their sh*t together.

i dunno what ur sayin.. what follow up. if you are talking about the Emotion/Amotion dvd cd set, they werent tryin to put it out like a new album. i actually just bought it and im completely in love with it.
im just confused as to what album you are talking about.. cause they made a 13th step... not a 12th step

Oi_To_The_World 12-16-2004 10:49 PM

oh my bad i meant the 13th step. but i was talkin about emotive, i dunno wut you talking about.

ish 12-16-2004 11:08 PM

AHHH dont u love mass confusion hehe

soundgardenrox 12-17-2004 10:38 PM

This is really hard cuz i love both bands but im going to have to go with Tool on this one. Tool has been more consistent to me with making great songs, but thats my opinion. But ofcourse both bands r sooo freakin good

ish 12-18-2004 01:54 AM

i agree...both r excellent

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 01-17-2005 05:16 PM

to say honestly i had never heard of tool until my half sister played it in her car on the way to my dad;s i was like :yeah: this is effin awesome!!!!
It was stinkfist, i <3 it!!!!!!! and iz my favourite still!...Aenima was my favourite c.d. :hphones: :band: ...NIN That guy is amazing aLso... :thumb:

Metal_Head 01-17-2005 05:32 PM

Toooooooooooooooooooooooooo-all!!!!

Waynegrow 01-17-2005 10:22 PM

Oh man no comparison TOOL by far<-very talented-anyone like A Perfect Circle's stuff to?

sleepy jack 01-17-2005 10:30 PM

neither.

hookers with machineguns 01-18-2005 08:52 AM

Both groups havent put out decent material for about nine years. But, Pretty Hate Machine and Opiate are must haves.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-18-2005 04:43 PM

Never really been a fan of either band , they both strike me as being rather pretentious & humourless.

desiccant 01-18-2005 05:39 PM

NIN, hands down. Tool is a great band, no question, but the emotions so clearly expressed by Mr. Reznor win me over.
