James Hetfield is no longer a thrash singer in my eyes. In my opinion when they did Load that was a step in the right direction as Hetfield's voice has matured into something other than thrash metal allows. I happen to enjoy both Load and reLoad. For what the sound was, it was good. I don't really care that they went onto making different styles in sound because it fit them very well. Back then they saw clearly that they weren't doing thrash any justice anymore because of maturing vocal cords. But now they're surrendering to their fan's wishes and not thinking about themselves, only their pocket books, which is fine because we can still listen to their back catalog.
Metallica is my favorite band. Kill 'em All is my favorite album ever, of any album. My 2nd favorite album is Ride the Lightening. And just so you know, my 3rd favorite album is the Best of the Runaways (The Millennium edition), 4th Nude and Rude the Best of Iggy Pop. And my 5th favorite album, this'll get a laugh and plenty of ridicule but so what? Ropin' the Wind by Garth Brooks. As I said my favorite band is Metallica, I just thought I'd add that AC/DC is my 2nd; 3rd is the Runaways; 4th, Kiss; 5th, Motorhead. I've never listened to St. Anger. I listened to bits and pieces at a CD Warehouse and didn't care for what I heard. After Ride the Lightning I most like ...And Justice for all, Black album, then Master of Puppets, Load and reLoad. Garage Days Inc was good. Haven't heard most of S&M for lack of interest but I will likely end up listening to all of them sooner or later, funds provided. Now, back to Death Magnetic. This'll get a bigger bunch of laughter and disdain but here it is: they would sound better doing country (which idea made me cringe as a teenager nearly ten years ago). Or at least try being a bar band again like what I heard in Load. The bunch of them on the back of that CD just reeked of bar/rock band, in a good way, similar to AC/DC. I watched That Metal Show and the hosts on that show say that Death Magnetic is where they should have gone after ...And Justice. Jim Florentine made me laugh in disgust when he said that. If the newest album was eintirely instrumental it would have worked alot better. Or if James just decided to skip being singer and just went with what now seems to suit him more, being guitarist. Lyrics like "What don't kill ya make ya more strong" make me wish they'd have gone instrumetal all the way. I usually would rather lyrics/singing in all songs, but James' lyrics and singing just doesn't work for me anylonger when it comes to metal. And that lyric sounds like he got a kid to remember the quote from Nietzsche. It might actually have been a half way decent song, even with Hetfield's voice, if they didn't make it sound like a kindergartener (James' son, maybe?) wrote it. "Love is a 4 letter word"..."this I swear! This I swear!" All lousy song writing. That's all I've got for now. Edit... I forgot my opinion on Master of Puppets' popularity: Although I love the album like a father might love every one of his offspring (best analogy I could come up with, sorry), I find it overrated as most everyone's favorite. I just don't get that, because I find that Ride the Lightning is far heavier, and Kill 'em All was far heavier than RtL. That's all. Last edited by Musicfanatic; 10-06-2010 at 01:04 AM. |

I'm hoping that they follow up Lulu with another unlikely collaboration. Like doing one of John Zorn's Book of Angels.

Kick out Kirk, bring back Dave, and start a reality show.
