Absolutely agreed basically 100% and I'd take it over their last two and Black Album as well. I'm still not a fan but if they cut every song by like a third or a half it would be a solid 8/10 alt metal album. Also if they wanted a lofi garage production they should have done that rather than overproducing the **** out of it.

Agree to disagree. I loved the last two. Tracks like Atlas Rise, Moth to Flame, and Spit out the Bone were exactly what I wanted.
Also, it's a little bit of a reach to say "at least they tried something new" on St. Anger when it was a bad imitation of SoaD. Load through St. Anger was the band doing other people's styles. At least Hardwired was them doing their own sound. Yes, not in the Top 3 albums they have but they're 38 years in. I'll never understand why they want bands to retire. Making new music doesn't kill the old music. You still have that. Why the freak out?

I don't care but just for their own dignity they should quit sooner rather than later.

I would rank the last two as their two worst albums. I still got some enjoyment out of them but overall they had the most tracks that bored me. I'm not really ripping the band and trying to say that they should be done, I just think their output has been overly safe which I guess is the path that most bands take later in their career when they're not as hungry, not as bold. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I'm not required to think that their output is good or anything like that. |

i suspect St. Anger turned out the way it did due to the fact that James and Lars fought almost constantly during the early days of its creation.
that on top of James entering rehab for alcohol issues. also, James and Lars' decision to completely exclude guitar solos entirely (for some utterly bizarre reason), upsetting Kirk (who had tried to be the voice of reason up to this point) in the process. the documentary Some Kind of Monster shows just what a mess St. Anger's production was. someone earlier mentioned they felt it very much appeared to be a knock-off-attempt at copying System of a Down...........and i'm somewhat inclined to agree. |

The best parts of Some Kind of Monster were Lars giving a douchebag look to the camera when Kirk was trying to suggest lyrics to the rest of the band, and looking like a service industry worker cornered by an old person who just wants someone to talk to when Dave Mustaine is just whining about how bad it made him feel to get kicked out of the band twenty ****ing years ago.

Its funny you say that because there's a ton of people out there who live to write "Megadeth is better than Metallica" but jesus, even when i try to be objective Megadeth sucks. Its all politics.

Dave Mustaine is a whiny dickweed but Megadeth is absolutely better than Metallica. I love Kill Em All. I really like Ride the Lightning. But after that I find it progressively harder to care. Megadeth are wildly awesome for like two decades even if they're not perfect.
