Dream Theater vs. Symphony X

Now HERE is a comparison. It's Symphony X for me, the vocals seem better to me.

I prefer mods vs threads that we've been told not to create, personally. I vote Mods btw

At least make an effort to say why you are comparing them.

khfreek 11-17-2008 03:48 PM

Uh, they closed the Dream Theather vs. PF thread because it was obvious that the thread had been going on too long and it was hardly a comparison. These are quite similar bands that would be interesting to discuss. I don't see how the mods would be against that.

EDIT: Ok, I am comparing them because they are both modern prog bands with guitar virtuosos, keyboard masters, high vocalists, and great instrumentation as a whole. They are similar enough that, unlike most situations, there can actually be a coherent discussion about who is better at song writing.

And I think Symphony X write better songs.

I like Pink Floyd more than Dream Theater. Dream Theater more than Symphony X.

The songs seem better to me.

Shall I lose my rag now or a few beers later?

Akira 11-17-2008 04:58 PM

Now, I'm off to bed in an hour, lol.

Why the constant fascination with comparing bands? It almost always descends into a slanging match with noobs galore posting one sentence posts belittling the other bands.

If posts actually said something new then I would at least read them but it usually ends up as : 'No way that mid section had better shredding' and 'you don't know nothing, they rock' blah blah blah. Musicbanter is better than that. I'm not questioning peoples liking for particular bands, I am questioning the playground mentality of pointless comparisons that could be better served throwing out a long lost musical gem or championing a band that deserves recognition and the web is the best place for that.

lucifer_sam 11-17-2008 07:04 PM

Which is why my Return to Forever & Adultery threads got 3 posts total.

Fucking people.

khfreek 11-17-2008 07:48 PM

People start comparison threads because people enjoy comparing things; it gives them ideas of their own taste and of others. And how much discussion can be had about "a long lost musical gem or championing a band that deserves recognition" when it will either have everyone agreeing, therefore ending discussion quickly, or it degrading into an "is it good or not" thread? That's why I don't see what's wrong with this sort of thread, as long as trolls are kept out. And just for you LS, I'll check out those threads ^_^
