Hmm, not really. "Elastic" is a 15 minute odd track, but there are quite few other tracks as well.

@JH - Have you tried Destroy Erase Improve? I think you might like that more. I mean, if you like Gojira, Meshuggah definitely should be enjoyable!

EDIT:
Here's the first track from the album, which might be a good indication of what's to come. Make sure to listen to it at full blast :hphones:

I have worked out why I can't get on with them-it's the production. It does'nt do them justice.

Really? The last track is hypnotizing.

I wouldn't force it if you don't like them.

Trivium are far from metalcore. They're more of a Shadows Fall-esque nu-thrash.

No they are just terribly average.

Ummm...both of those bands are metalcore.
Nu-thrash? Haven't heard that one yet. That should go into the "how many genres" thread

Weird, I've never heard Shadows Fall ever referred to as anything but nu-thrash. I can't even hear any "core" in either band while I'm at it. I have no clue what Shadows Fall you're talking about but even though I highly dislike them I can't find any chugga chugga or breakdown. Am I totally missing something or do all dip****s refer to lousy metal as "metalcore" without knowing what the term means?

Nu-thrash must be a recently constructed term. Shadows Fall and Trivium are undoubtedly metalcore. It doesn't matter what the band calls themselves, they remain metalcore. Metalcore is basically melodeath with hardcore influences, and doesn't necessarily need breakdowns. Both Shadows Fall and Trivium have throaty "hardcore" vocals with clean vocals mixed in, which is quintessential metalcore. Both bands have riffing styles that mainly focus on melody, another common metalcore attribute.

Here's a site that considers both bands metalcore, and this is probably one of the most reliable metal-related sites your gonna find
Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives

Nu-thrash is either made up by you, or a term tagged on to bands like Trivium and Shadows Fall that don't want to associate themselves with the generally looked down upon "metalcore" genre. I know I'm right, Wikipedia doesn't even have a page for that genre!! hahaaha

What are VOIVOD considered genre wise, if you don't mind me asking?

Embracethedeath 11-05-2008 06:24 PM

Progressive thrash earlier and now they're pretty much just progressive

The Unfan 11-05-2008 09:50 PM

Metalcore

Shadows Fall

So I still can't hear anything remotely metalcore about Shadows Fall. It just simply isn't metalcore. Other than this particular Shadows Fall song having a ****ty chugga chugga bit right before the solo.
