Who knew metalheads could be close-minded?

A good majority of Metalheads just listen to what they listen to because it's different. The second a band starts getting recognized even a little, they instantly hate it... and in some cases will deny they ever liked them.

I am a Metalhead, but I'm not like that. lol. I recognize good music, regardless of how popular it is.

And... Meshuggah is amazing.

The only Meshuggah album I have is Chaosphere and it bores the arse off me to be honest.

Isn't that the one that's just one long song? I could definitely see how that could get boring. Nothing is great album by them though. Lots of good skewed grooves on that one. It's like the kind of music Fela Kuti would have made if he had a metal band.

Hmm, not really. "Elastic" is a 15 minute odd track, but there are quite few other tracks as well.

@JH - Have you tried Destroy Erase Improve? I think you might like that more. I mean, if you like Gojira, Meshuggah definitely should be enjoyable!

EDIT:
Here's the first track from the album, which might be a good indication of what's to come. Make sure to listen to it at full blast :hphones:

Ah, yeah, I just looked it up, I guess it's Catch Thirtythree that I was thinking of.

This is a false statement. People outside metal circles usually say stuff like this as an attempt to make fun or degrade "metal elitists." Popularity has nothing to do with quality and some of the most "elitist" people will surely tell you this. The thing is, most popular music does suck. Bands like CoB, BFMV, Trivium, and all those other really popular "metal" bands, for the most part, are pretty terrible. Old school bands such as Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Venom, and Megadeth have huge fanbases and I'm almost positive that 99% of elitist metalheads would say they enjoy those four bands.

The Unfan 11-05-2008 12:11 AM

I've never understood why Trivium are so downrated by many metalheads. Surely they're nothing special, but they're nowhere near as bad as elitists tend to think.

Embracethedeath 11-05-2008 01:44 PM

Trivium are the most popular metalcore band(I'm pretty sure they are, I wouldn't know though cause i have no knowledge of metalcore really) and are one of the most noticeable metalcore bands. Metal elitists hate metalcore and if all they hear about is Trivium, then they will hate Trivium.

I'm listening to the latest Meshuggah 'Obzen' and it's still boring me. I should give up on them. However the latest Gojira gets better with each listen.
