ive been to at least 300 shows..rap, metal, punk, screamo, blah, blah, blah.....Gwar has one of the best live shows ive seen. Some bands are performers/entertainers, some bands give everything they got in the studio and then fail miserably to get the crowd to do anything but sit there and wonder why they spent the money going. Very few bands can do both and do it really good. I agree that gwar arent the best musicians, neither are they guys from Kiss, the meatmen or motley crue but their live shows blow away most "musically talented" bands. Good music, or a good show? I can hear professionally produced/mixed/dubbed whatever music anytime at home, when im out i wanna see and experiance an intense live set, one that leaves me saying, man that was some crazy ****. the music doesnt have to be played perfect but they gotta have something going on to keep me there or make me wanna come back next time aound.

I have to say I thought Radioheads Kid A & Amnesiac were pretty bad until I saw them live.
Now I like them more than their other stuff

OK oojay - truce? I'll stop massengilling if you'll entertain the notion that there are better live bands than GWAR. or don't, I don't care. As for my fantasies, you'll be happy to know that neither you nor your dad(s?) are in them. Peace.

fidelity, what are you refering to when you say "better live bands"? are you saying better sounding? or better stage show? I think that if you can explain what your going for a little better than maybe oojay and the rest of us can have a better idea whether or not we agree.

I didn't refer to better live bands, I mentioned other live bands. It doesn't matter if we all agree or not, it's more interesting when there are multiple opinions. I like a good show as much as anyone. Not having seen GWAR, I could be entirely wrong, they may be the best live band ever, but i doubt it. I've seen tape of them and I think they are absolutely ridiculous. I do give them credit though for milking the same tired schtick for going on what, 20 years? I guess I lump them in with WASP and the like - minimal talent and crappy songs. I have seen extravagant shows (Alice Cooper in the early 80's, Funkadelic with the spaceship, Metallica on the Justice tour etc.) and enjoyed them immensely. I guess what I'm getting at is that for me, a musician's ability to play, to improvise, to leave you with your jaw dropped - that's what really matters when they play live. It's different for everyone, and as I am double or more in years on most of the posters here, a lot of that perspective comes with age, been there done that. Where I won't waste money on the big productions anymore (except maybe Pink Floyd if they ever tour again), I understand why some people still do. Even if it's GWAR. Trust me, your tastes change and your horizons broaden as you get older. When I was a youngster, it was metal all the way. Now there is very little music I don't like, except for the puke that's on the radio, but that's a whole other thread. Lates.
