Default Ten

Anyone into this band from Manchester? Very melodic, great lyrics, and Gary Hughes is a master wordsmith. Any other fans here?

Hi Demonoid!
Ten would be in the more melodic style of rock, perhaps along the lines of Asia, Journey, Night Ranger etc. Wouldn't be as heavy as say Kamelot, but a great band, technically excellent with some truly great songs. Here's a quick dissection of the playlist to help you (and anyone else thinking of giving them a whirl)---

1. The Crusades (It's all about love) --- X Heavy, thumping rocker, with a truly excellent screaming guitar intro. A real "punch-the-air" number
2. The Robe --- The Robe Epic, quite long and sort of mystical, not as fast as "Crusades" but a great rocker, with some truly stunning lyrics, and a voiceover intro I recognise but still can't place...
3. Fear the force --- Spellbound Straight-ahead rocker, powerful, fast, great solos, good headbanger this!
4. Give in this time --- Babylon Mid-paced, not a ballad but more laid-back, sort of "Who's crying now" in structure
5. Yesterday lies in the flames --- X A real ballad, wistful, emotional, powerful -- Gary HUghes at his best
6. High tide --- Far beyond the world FBTW is widely accepted to be a "softer", more AOR-like album, and you can see why, listening to this track. Moderately paced, hummable, probably would have been a good single
7. Evermore --- Return to Evermore A sort of Celtic feel to this, strains of going into battle, kind of Scottish jig in the tune. Military themes and resonances. Licks along at a good pace.
8. Standing on the edge of time --- The Robe Again, sort of AOR-ish, good radio type song, mid-paced, very catchy. Lovely soaraway guitar!
9. Love became the law --- Babylon A dark, intense ballad from one of their best albums imo. Very gritty while still being a love song.
10. Turn around --- The name of the rose Another ballad, more sugary but very listenable.
11. What about me --- Far beyond the world And another one, but this one more powerful, strong vocals and plenty of emotion. Again, would have been a good single.
12. Sail away --- Return to Evermore A truly beautiful ballad, laid-back, yet powerful in a way Gary Hughes's ballads often are. Evokes some wondeful images. Real night-time stuff!
13. We rule the night --- Spellbound Another sort of military/western theme, mythic and quasi-historical in nature. Slow burning.
14. Silent rain --- Babylon Another beautiful ballad from "Babylon", pipped to the post only by the superlative "Valentine." A real showcase for Gary's vocals.
15. Even the ghosts cry --- Return to Evermore Sort of like SOTEOT, very AOR, very radio-friendly. Fast-paced, happy but with a sad theme.
16. Red --- Spellbound A song of men going in battle. Very gung-ho, very military, more Celtic influences. Sort of mid-paced.
17. Timeless --- Babylon Mid-paced too, kind of mid-range song. Doesn't particularly stand out, but even at that, a great song from a great album!
18. Scarlet and the grey --- Babylon More radio-friendly material. This is actually from FBTW, which explains it's AOR-ness...
19. Heart like a lion -- Far beyond the world Nice mid-paced rocker
20. Fly like an eagle --- The Robe Another rocker, with a great guitar solo
21. Wonderland --- Return to Evermore A great, great ballad, with some truly lovely lyrics
22. Goodnight Saigon --- The name of the rose Not the Billy Joel song! Good, fast-paced rocker.
23. Thunder in Heaven --- Babylon Where Ten really rock out! This is the heaviest song on Babylon by a mile --- just listen to those guitars squeal!
22. Soliloquoy : the loneliest place in the world --- X Beautiful, beautiful ballad with a "false ending", which you'll be glad is false! Flawless guitar work.
23. Valentine --- Babylon Without question, Ten's best ever ballad. Lonely piano counterpointing Gary's soulful voice. I defy you not to have a tear in your eye after listening to this --- I always do!
24. Wings of the storm --- The name of the rose A good, solid rocker
25. Standing in your light --- The name of the rose Sort of Bon Jovi-ish ballad, a real arena tune --- hold those lighters up!
25. Far beyond the world --- Far beyond the world Another ballad, good but not fantastic. AOR definitely
26. Tearing my heart out --- Return to Evermore A heavy track from Evermore, with a real growling guitar keeping pace with the beat. More air-punching!
27. Rainbow in the dark --- The Robe Truly beautiful ballad, that fades off into a guitar solo that really should have lasted longer...
28. Till the end of time --- Spellbound Another ballad, a bit cheesy, but good even so
29. Elysian Fields --- The twilight chronicles Stunning ballad from what is widely regrded as Ten's heaviest (and their most recent) album
30. Hallowed ground --- The twilight chronicles Another heavy song from their heaviest album. Rocks along at a fine pace, and has again, a flase ending...
31. This heart goes on --- The twilight chronicles Great ballad from TTC, lightening the overall heavy mood of the album
32. Twilight masquerade --- The twilight chronicles This, and the below track, emphasise what Ten can do when they really, really rock out!
33. Tourniquet --- The twilight chronicles

Just an all-round great band! Few others produce such an omnious and melodic sound combined with truly epic lyrics. I want to thank you Trollheart for providing these compilations as Ten songs are virtually impossible to find, I downloaded them I while back but never got around to register and thank you properly so hopefully you're still active here to get your long overdue praise. For all you others I strongly suggest you download them and give them a listen, they're well worth it!

Default Broken link

I just recently discovered this band and would love to have the compilation that is posted here. The 1st and 3rd link are still valid but the middle (2nd) link appears to have been deleted. I would love to have that reposted if possible...

Thanks,

creo
