The Flying Luttenbachers
Any Luttenbacher fans? They are personally one of my all-time favorites. They have successfully combined jazz with black metal. Everyone I've mentioned them to either loves 'em or hates 'em. If you like unique, you'll love the FL.
I call it black jazz. ;) |
Very cool band. I only have the album Systems Emerge From Complete Disorder.

I wish they would tour down south. I've always loved their style. There is truly nothing like them.

..any links?

MotherLuttenbaching Gold
This was from '06, with almost an entirely new cast. Satan: 1 Jesus: 0 They actually have a myspace. ;) |
I can't hear any Jazz in their music. They can be quite atonal at times but it is amateurish at best. If you are going to fuse two disparate genres, then you must be at least compotent at both. They are good at neither. The drummer has talent but you need to get some John Zorn down you son.

I agree on the Black Metal aspect but having weird time signatures means that Music is often unfairly lumped in as Jazz. The Free-noise moniker is quite apt. It does'nt matter how experimental Jazz gets, there is still an underlying musical dexterity which i cannot hear in this band.

this stuff to me is more Technical Noise Rock/core type thing.

In the past few weeks I have been really getting into these guys. They have some truly amazing stuff but they're one of those bands that you really can't get a good grip on by watching a YouTube video, you need to listen to a whole album.
As far as some of the comments in this thread go: FL are associated with jazz because they started off as a jazz/punk band and one of the founding members was Chicago free jazz sax and trumpet player Hal Russell. He was in his 60s at the time—pretty cool old guy! I'm not sure where the black metal comparisons are coming from, I don't hear it personally. Anyway, even though I just warned against judging them by YouTube videos, here's a little bit of studio material from them since everything else in this thread seems to be low quality live recordings (and maybe Jackhammer will take note of the underlying musical dexterity and give them a second chance :)): |
