I'm just new here, big Sabbath and Ozzy fan, are you allowed to post clips here?
|
Ozzy is an Aston Villa fan. Don't reckon he's passionate about footie. What about Iommi and Butler? Birmingham or Villa?
|
Dio gets my vote, although I do enjoy Black Sabbath with Ozzy as well.
His solo stuff, however, is total crap 9 times out of 10. |
QUOTE=Paul Smeenus;1395257]Randy Rhodes could play circles around Toni Iommi, but that doesn't make him more interesting.
Besides, RR's tone was thin and screechy. Ick.[/QUOTE] Crazy talk. Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a madman are 2 of my favee albums. Especially Diary. Randy managed to play that neo classical stuff but with so much feeling. How can anyone not just crank that Over the mountain solo when it comes on? Some very subtle brilliant guitar on those records. Listen to the volume swells on "Tonight"as an example of his under stated brilliance (right after the "now I'm back out on the street again" line). http://m.youtube.com/results?q=ozzy+...iginal&sm=1%22 |
Sabbath with Ozzy is easily the answer for me. One of my favorite bands ever. Sabbath with Dio isn't awful, but its not Black Sabbath to me.
|
Unfortunately I'm the wrong person to ask which era ( Ozzy or Dio) of Sabbath I like the best. I LOVE BOTH! Probably the ONLY band in the history of popular music where two back-to-back incarnations of a lineup produce high quality of music on equal levels! So I guess I'll skip the vote. :D
That said, I'd rather hear Dio-era Sabbath over Ozzy AND Dio as solo artists any day of the week! No contest! :thumb: |
Black Sabbath/w Ozzy
It was a very tough call between Ozzy solo and Ozzy with Black Sabbath..But I have to give it to Black Sabbath/w Ozzy...Four pieces of a really tight puzzle...However, once Ozzy left, Black Sabbath was never the same...Dio was way better on his own or with Rainbow...but that is another discussion

As a fan of Sabbath across the board from Ozzy to Dio to Gillan and even the Tony Martin era, this was a hard pick. I went with Ozzy's solo career, those first three albums were huge and part of my first years getting into music. Randy is still to this day my favorite guitarist and the music he and Daisley wrote with the Blizzard of Ozz band was just incredible - hard to believe we only have those two albums Randy left us with and one can only imagine what direction Randy would have taken as he was looking at leaving the band after the Diary tour. I'm re-reading Sarzo's book, anyone who is a fan of the Blizzard of Ozz albums should definitely check it out as it is a great read. The first concert I ever went to was Ozzy with Motley Crue opening on the BatM/Shout At The Devil tour. Jake E. Lee blew my mind seeing him play live, the two albums he wrote and recorded on are great, too but nowhere near Blizzard and Diary to me.

Although I agree with the masses that Black Sabbath with Ozzy was the superior product, I am surprised that Ozzy's solo work scored twice as high as Dio, never thought his solo stuff was that great myself.

^except for Ozzy and Sabbath.
