Check out Rhapsody of Fire for real cheese! I love 'em! DragonForce's (arguably) best album is Sonic Firestorm! Check out their web site, I think they have a song or two up there that you could listen to. Oh, try and listen to a song called Unholy Wars by a band called Angra! |

I agree with the Helloween, and Sonata Arctica (not too familiar with), allow me to add Hammerfall to the list. Also, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, and Gamma Ray you might enjoy as well.

Dream Theater. Iced Earth rocks! If your feeling really bold, try Opeth, which gets you into melodic DM.

No argument there, but the term progressive means anything goes and I think both crossover into power metal, especially DT. Take away the death metal growl from Opeth and they're there as well.
