I'd say Tenacious D is a stretch as well. What's so fake there? Alright, so there's fiction about them. It's still a real band. :p

There's so many good "fake" bands. Other than some mentioned, my favourites would have to be Munchausen by Proxy from Yes Man and Sex Bob-omb, Crash and the Boys, and The Clash at Demonhead from Scott Pilgrim.
