Neil Young 88th? Are you serious? What have you been smoking?
Also Carlos Santana should be higher up the list. So should Rory Gallagher!
Jimmy Page is overrated. So is Mark Knopfler but I still like his music.
What about John Squire,Steve Craddock, Jeffrey Lee Pierce?

And where the f*ck (excuse the french) is John Lee Hooker, BB King, Djengo Rheinhardt, Joe Pass, Thurston Moore/Kim Gordon?????
Now I can understand these lists cant exactly be that easy to do & its easy to forget about certain artists etc etc but I think to do one of these you have to consider all genres (including Jazz guitarists & even artists you dont even like).
To me this list just looks like its listed in order of fame/popularity.
But thats just my opinion of course.

Im intriguied though as Im sure I saw a very similar list in a recent music mag & Im sure Neil Young was either 88th or 89th in it & Hendrix was definitley no1with Page closeby.
So did you just copy it from the internet/magazine?

Your long posts, which you insist on separating into several paragraphs, hardly ever contain enough that couldn't be said in a sentence or two. And quoting the whole list of 200 guitarists is just obnoxious.

And tell me, why should I change what i have to say to suit you?
I just type what I have to say, whether it pleases you or not.
I typed what I felt was enough & I didnt realise the whole list had been quoted until the end so I deleted a bit of it.

The reason I seperate them into paragraphs was because a certain individual (s) complained in the past about me typing it all together in one big 'wall of text' as they put it.
So I try to make it easier to read.

Comus 05-21-2009 05:23 PM

Yet it ends up becoming even more difficult to read.

khfreek 05-21-2009 05:28 PM

Might have something to do with his use of the enter key so much, even within paragraphs.

Squire is up there.

I love Neil Young, he's a great guitarist, but lets not go crazy, I'm judging him as a guitarist alone. And as a guitarist alone there's a good deal of people who outrank him even if he's a better songwriter.

This is a rock oriented list. I do have some blues guitarists on here that I feel have a more rock oriented sound, like SRV. But Django and Pass certainly don't qualify as rock.

Thurston Moore is up there. Kim Gordon is the bassist, not a guitarist.

200 Greatest Guitarists in Rock.

If it were an all genres list, there would barely be any rock in it at all.

Eh no... There's a lot of obscure names in there, from all the big rock genres. If the popular names are higher, that's because influence and impact is a factor.

Absolutely not and I'm quite insulted that you are suggesting that.

Comus 05-21-2009 07:58 PM

Hahaha I must have missed that last bit, seriously why can't we just ban mirrorball? Also, the list was probably copied from here considering how old it is in comparison to whatever the hell he's quoting as "recent".

Yeah fair enough, I admit I was a bit harsh. Also I put Moore & Gordon because I couldnt remember which one was the bassist lol.
Really? I couldnt find Squire, will just have to have another look.

EDIT: This is a good reason why Santana should be higher up the list:
This is the only song I religiously listen to at least once a day without fail, usually at night.

O and heres another:
