I always have doubt about Jimi Hendrix being the #1 guitar player. I think Jimi Hendrix is a amazing guitar player, but I am skeptical of how guitarist get rated. Yes he's great, but sometimes I wonder if people rank him number one for reasons other then his guitar playing, do they rate Jimi Hendrix because he's got personality, he's cool? Is he more remember for what he did then what he played? Like at the Monterey Pop Festival, he got his freak on with his gutiar, burned it, smashed it, and he played at Woodstock, the syzygy of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll for the baby boomers. Is that the critea for being the best guitar player? Does his showmanship upstage his playing?

I agree, I myself have never quite understood what makes Hendrix such a 'shoe-in' at #1. But it's not my list so I can't change it. You could always try pleading your case to booboo, he seem's like a pretty reasonable guy.

No, and I'm sure Pete Townshend shouldn't be drouped with these guys.

Why not? He's certainly better than Richards.

He's one of the most influencial guitarists of his time, and anyone who's listened to Live at Leeds and Quadrophena knows the guy really can play.

Was saying he's in a different atmosphere than those guys. You mis-read my post. No harn, no foul. you basically said was I was trying to say.

When is the last time the order was updated 2boo?

boo boo 05-20-2009 04:29 PM

A year. But I'll work on a new version soon.

I really like most of the top 100, but we are both partial to 60's and 70's rock so that figures I guess.

I don't think that's being unfair to other decades. It's just that those two decades had a lot more innovative and influencial guitarists.

I try to be fair to every genre.

No way, is Pete Twonsend better then Keith Richards,
Here is 10 reasons why?
0. Keith Richards is the first blues-rock guitarist from the UK (I'm not say the best but the first)
1. The Beatles disasssociated themselves from the British Invasion feeling everyband wanted to be them, so that leaves The Rolling Stones as the premier British Invasion band.
2. He's a pirate, Captain Jack Sparrows father
3. He names his guitars, he doesn't smash them into peices, he gives them names like "Micawber" "Malcomb" "Dice" "Dwight" which is way cooler then smashing them.
3. He learned every Robert Johnson song.
4. He owned the first Les Paul that had a Bigsby vibrato on it in the UK.
5. He plays a 5-string guitar tune to an open G chord,
6. He detunes his guitars, he doesn't smash them.
7. Aftermath was an influence on The Beatle's Sgt. Pepper album.
8. You can't understand a single word he says.
9. He covered blues artist like Slim Harpo and Willie Dixon.
10. Pete Townsend got his windmill move from imitating Keith Richards.

N.B. Danny Gatton (45) and Link Wray (23) were guitarist for Robert Gordon (not together but at different times)

Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hopple, Bad Company) where is he on the list???
If you caninclude Mickey Baker as a session musician then include
Tommy Todesco (Association, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, Fifth Demension, Elvis Frank Zappa, etc etc)
Hank Garland (Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline)

What about these guitar player?
Def Leppard:
Steve Clark
Phil Collen
The Ventures:
Bob Boggle
Don Wilson
Nokie Edwards
Jerry Magee

and you might care for these guys but I would included them...
Richard Lloyd (Televison) didn't see him on the list??
Jo Callis (The Rezillos)
Andy Gill (Gang of Four)
Sammy James, Jr. & Graham Tyler, (The Mooney Suzuki)
Albert Hammond, Jr. & Nick Velensi (The Strokes)
