Hedges is an AMAZING guitarist, but I don't think he's done anything that could be considered rock.

I know quite a few highly skilled guitarists who are unknown, I guess there will never be an ULTIMATE list of best/most skilled guitarists since not all the guitarists in the world are known.

But I like the list you've done. Nice work.

well...taste in style matters a lot which makes this list even harder to make

BUT

when lists of "best/most skilled" guitarists come out we're also talking in terms of innovation and what they have offered to the musical world. The less well known the guitarist is, chances are, the less they've offered to the musical world. Especially now that guitarists arent just a dime a dozen, they're a dime for every 200.

That's what I tell people when I ask them who do you think is the best, because they say **** like Fallout Boy, and I'm like, and they're ****, what the **** have they done for music? nothing like Ozzy, Led Zep, Van Halen have done.

People are dense these days and don't understand theology.

that is very true. fallout boy basically does nothing but suck ****.

but there is a reason there are big names like Santana and Satch and Clapton that can sell out a huge venue even now.

Again I tried not to show any genre preference and made sure every genre has a representitive or two.

Lists with metal and prog guitarists usually neglect punk and alternative guitarists, and vice versa, most of these are subjective, so I tried to do the most fair list I could.

These lists also tend to be skilled based, for me that's a small part of the criteria. But influence, impact and popularity are also very important, however I won't confuse popular artists (Billy Joe Artmstrong) with popular guitarists.

yeah. i like your list. its pretty good. i think you did a good job with it. to me its not the order that matters but who you have up there.

yeah billy joe isnt really a guitarist...even tho he's actually really good at punk rhythm.
