You could compare him to some creative guitarists. I mean, I think I personally have more of a taste for music than the auditory enema Slash manages to produce every few years.

Paul Gilbert is good, but he doesn't really force much emotion into his songwriting. And his voice scurrs me.

I would have thought being a member of Mr Big would mean automatic disqualification.

I doubt even Hendrix could play for them and make them sound good.

Come to think of it, I highly doubt Hendrix could even play that song.

This is most likely just my biased opinion, but I would've put Dimebag way higher than he is. But, that's just me. Other than that, pretty solid list.

I'd rather listen to Slash than Gilbert without a doubt, because one is in Guns N Roses and one plays for Mr. Big and Racer X, sure Slash isn't doing much more than copying Perry and Page, but he's one of the perfectionists of what I call the "c*ck rock" guitar style. Gilbert to me is just one of many shredders that sound pretty much the same, but he's one of the more popular and respected ones, warranting his placement on the list nonetheless.

I've tried to be as unbiased as possible, I have the dudes from Journey, Toto, Extreme, etc, so the butt rock demographic is well represented.

I still haven't made it to 250 and I'm on the verge of just saying f*ck it and updating my list already.

personally i'd rather not listen to either. theres better stuff out there in my opinion

the paul gilbert video that twister posted. i mean jimi was great, but i dont think he had as much technical knowledge or fast enough shredding skills. he bled more raw talent.

What made Jimi an exceptional guitarist was his abillity to play rhythm and lead simoutaneously and so flawlessly, with very little use of overdubbing to my knowledge, no one before him played both roles so perfectly. He was very skilled but no he wasn't what you'd call "clean", he played like a man on fire and he actually used his occassional sloppiness to his advantage. He didn't invent any of the techniques he was known for, but he mashed it all together and pushed it to a level that no one had ever come close to doing before. He deserves to be number 1, period.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned Jari. But Jari.
