Why not? He's certainly better than Richards.
He's one of the most influencial guitarists of his time, and anyone who's listened to Live at Leeds and Quadrophena knows the guy really can play. |

When is the last time the order was updated 2boo?
|
A year. But I'll work on a new version soon.
|
I really like most of the top 100, but we are both partial to 60's and 70's rock so that figures I guess.
|
I don't think that's being unfair to other decades. It's just that those two decades had a lot more innovative and influencial guitarists.
I try to be fair to every genre. |

Here is 10 reasons why? 0. Keith Richards is the first blues-rock guitarist from the UK (I'm not say the best but the first) 1. The Beatles disasssociated themselves from the British Invasion feeling everyband wanted to be them, so that leaves The Rolling Stones as the premier British Invasion band. 2. He's a pirate, Captain Jack Sparrows father 3. He names his guitars, he doesn't smash them into peices, he gives them names like "Micawber" "Malcomb" "Dice" "Dwight" which is way cooler then smashing them. 3. He learned every Robert Johnson song. 4. He owned the first Les Paul that had a Bigsby vibrato on it in the UK. 5. He plays a 5-string guitar tune to an open G chord, 6. He detunes his guitars, he doesn't smash them. 7. Aftermath was an influence on The Beatle's Sgt. Pepper album. 8. You can't understand a single word he says. 9. He covered blues artist like Slim Harpo and Willie Dixon. 10. Pete Townsend got his windmill move from imitating Keith Richards. N.B. Danny Gatton (45) and Link Wray (23) were guitarist for Robert Gordon (not together but at different times) Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hopple, Bad Company) where is he on the list??? If you caninclude Mickey Baker as a session musician then include Tommy Todesco (Association, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, Fifth Demension, Elvis Frank Zappa, etc etc) Hank Garland (Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline) What about these guitar player? Def Leppard: Steve Clark Phil Collen The Ventures: Bob Boggle Don Wilson Nokie Edwards Jerry Magee and you might care for these guys but I would included them... Richard Lloyd (Televison) didn't see him on the list?? Jo Callis (The Rezillos) Andy Gill (Gang of Four) Sammy James, Jr. & Graham Tyler, (The Mooney Suzuki) Albert Hammond, Jr. & Nick Velensi (The Strokes) |
Thanks for the recs, I'll work on it.

Neil Young 88th? Are you serious? What have you been smoking? Also Carlos Santana should be higher up the list. So should Rory Gallagher! Jimmy Page is overrated. So is Mark Knopfler but I still like his music. What about John Squire,Steve Craddock, Jeffrey Lee Pierce? And where the f*ck (excuse the french) is John Lee Hooker, BB King, Djengo Rheinhardt, Joe Pass, Thurston Moore/Kim Gordon????? Now I can understand these lists cant exactly be that easy to do & its easy to forget about certain artists etc etc but I think to do one of these you have to consider all genres (including Jazz guitarists & even artists you dont even like). To me this list just looks like its listed in order of fame/popularity. But thats just my opinion of course. Im intriguied though as Im sure I saw a very similar list in a recent music mag & Im sure Neil Young was either 88th or 89th in it & Hendrix was definitley no1with Page closeby. So did you just copy it from the internet/magazine? |
Your long posts, which you insist on separating into several paragraphs, hardly ever contain enough that couldn't be said in a sentence or two. And quoting the whole list of 200 guitarists is just obnoxious.

I just type what I have to say, whether it pleases you or not. I typed what I felt was enough & I didnt realise the whole list had been quoted until the end so I deleted a bit of it. The reason I seperate them into paragraphs was because a certain individual (s) complained in the past about me typing it all together in one big 'wall of text' as they put it. So I try to make it easier to read. |
Yet it ends up becoming even more difficult to read.
|
Might have something to do with his use of the enter key so much, even within paragraphs.

I love Neil Young, he's a great guitarist, but lets not go crazy, I'm judging him as a guitarist alone. And as a guitarist alone there's a good deal of people who outrank him even if he's a better songwriter. Quote:
Thurston Moore is up there. Kim Gordon is the bassist, not a guitarist. Quote:
If it were an all genres list, there would barely be any rock in it at all. Quote:

Hahaha I must have missed that last bit, seriously why can't we just ban mirrorball? Also, the list was probably copied from here considering how old it is in comparison to whatever the hell he's quoting as "recent".

Really? I couldnt find Squire, will just have to have another look. EDIT: This is a good reason why Santana should be higher up the list: This is the only song I religiously listen to at least once a day without fail, usually at night. O and heres another: Quote:

The real truth is that you knew I was right, but was too scared to admit it until Booboo came along and said practically the same thing worded differentley. |
You obviously have no idea about the general interaction/relationships/mood of this forum do you? Can't you ever read between the lines? God knows you create enough of them.

Yeah, one of us actually has a brain capable of recieving, deciphering and transferring them.
EDIT: What in the flying fuck am I doing standing up for Boo Boo? Screw this. |

As for 'standing up for Boo boo', you took a while to catch on to that comment; I think this answers the above question. ^ Also you were so un-original with your comment on the most annoying MB member thread... |
Maybe I just like System of a Down too much, but I could see Daron Malakian fitting somewhere in the list, probably towards the end though.
|

I'm sorry to bump this topic but that post was just stupid. Seriously people if you're going to make outrageous claims as to why someone should be ahead of Hendrix, the thought of which is equally outrageous, at least back up said claims with some kind of argument.
