I quite liked Sabbat, a friend of mine got me into them and gave me their first two albums, I dug them pretty hard, but then I did some looking around and obtained Mourning Has Broken... After that even the earlier albums no longer sounded as good. I realised why he only gave me the first two.

I should re-listen to the first two especially History but, eh who has the time nowadays, Especially when I'll be listening to music solely for my reviews for the next few weeks. Andy is a total legend though, some of his production work is great... some not such but still.

A History Of A Time To Come has not held up well but Dreamweaver still sounds good.

Possessed-My Belief (1988)

I am going to diversify a little and introduce bands that deviated from the classic Thrash sound yet still were included in that genre at the time. Possessed are acknowledged as one of the first Death Metal bands. This was a lyrical conceit only for a while. The E.P 'The Eyes Of Horror' was adored by the Thrash fraternity.

Nuclear Assault-Brain Death (1986)

Nuclear Assault's sound took it's influences from American hardcore and Punk much more so than classic Metal templates yet they enjoyed the most success when affiliating themselves with the Thrash fraternity. I met John Connelly a couple of times and he came across as a sincere (albeit) small fella but Dan Lilker was a much more distant figure. Such a shame as his Bass sound and political motivations were behind a lot of what Nuclear Assault were about and indeed a side Project 'S.O.D'.

This track was the last on their debut 'Game Over' and contains one of the best ever breakdowns (before they were recognised as an actual musical tool) in the genre. That, along with it's ambient build up equates to one of the finest examples of the genre you will hear.

This is a great thread. Out of all the bands listed here, I recommend Blind Illusion the most. The Sane Asylum is a brilliant album

I like looking through this thread. 0ut of thrash, black, and death metal, i know the least about thrash. If i was gonna say one thing, it would be that Repugnant is a bitchin thrash/death band. New too.

Acid Reign were great. I saw them many times live way back when. They were'nt the best musicians, their music was'nt of the highest standard yet they were damn fun both on the stage and off it. The production on their first E.P 'Moshkinstein' (of which this was taken) has an almost Punk vibe and eschewed the traditional speeded up Sabbath type of heaviness that was prevalent at the time. Anyhow, I can't see many people digging this but it's brought back a few memories for me:

Love this thread. I saw Death Angel, Testament, and Nuclear Assault live in the 80s...at a tiny place called the Emerald City Ballroom in Wichita, Kansas. ahhhhhh sweet memories.

Probably the most musically competent band from the Thrash era and quite honestly one of the best guitar bands ever IMO. Just listen to those tempo changes and skew whiffed rhythms. Coming from Canada and being influenced by Psychedelia set them far apart from the many american bands at the time. Both Dimension Hatross (from which this is taken) and Nothing Face are superb albums and it is definitely time for a reappraisal.
