The vocals are an acquired taste but the album 'Eternal Nightmare' was a riff fuelled classic:

Testament- The Haunting (1987)
The band that never quite made it. Testament's first three albums were killer. Full of chunky riffs and surprisingly at ease with melodic sections too. I was recently utterly distraught to watch them playing 'Burnt Offerings' recently at Wacken and Chuck (vocalist) was grunting and screaming and generally over-emphasising the vocal track as if he wants to appear hip and modern and more in line with what the kids want these days. Fuck that. Just play it like it's supposed to be played. BTW. Chuck needs to lose weight ;) |
Some nice stuff, but where's the Kreator man?
|
Kreator- Stream Of Consciousness (1989)
I saw them on this tour. Even though I was never a big fan, I thought this album had Kreator defining their sound and this track has an almost Punk Hardcore sound to it. One of Germany's best and most influential Thrash bands. |
That's better, wrong album, but much better :D
|
I can't even remember who was supporting them on this tour either. My poor brain :D
|
Haha, would most probably have been someone forgettable, a good thrash band comes but once in a single tour ;)
|
G? Gammacide.

This is the best thread I've seen on this site. Top marks! Ive posted thrash metal threads on other sites as it's a genre of music I've been looking broadening my horizons with. I like the big bands ike Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax etc and I like some Dark Angel, Possessed, Testament and a handful of other bands but I'm rather picky with thrash metal so thanks a lot I'm listening to some Coroner now :)

Sabbat-The Best Of Enemies (1989)
Arguably Britains best Thrash band. Sabbat took inspiration lyrically from Pagan folklore and their music genuinely did sound different to the generic Bay Area sound. The 'Dreamwaver' album from which this is taken from is very dense both lyrically and musically with Walkyiers vocals hugely dominating the sound. I went to see them live around this time and they were one of the best bands I have ever seen. |
