Oh boy. Rock & Roll is a pretty diverse genre, so I'm going to be liberal about what defines it. Here is what I would consider the Pantheon, as in, 10 bands/artists that without them, rock would be a very different thing:

-The Beatles
-Elvis Presley
-Jimi Hendrix
-Bob Dylan
-Johnny Cash
-The Velvet Underground
-The Ramones
-Nirvana
-Black Sabbath
-The Kinks

I'm a hiphop guy, used to be a Nirvana/Zeppelin head back in the day until I turned 16, and I just gave up all that **** because it was a depressing time in my life. Anyways here's my bands in no order:
