I have to once again take the diplomatic approach and go with two different list here, one being my opinion and preference... and the other being they way they influenced the world of music over the years.
My top ten over History:
My personal favorites:

1. Pink Floyd
2. Jimi Hendrix 3. Rolling Stones 4. Stone Temple Pilots 5. Pearl Jam 6. The Doors 7. Black Flag 8. Bad Brains 9. Nirvana 10. Lynard Skynard There's really no order here, plus there's still alot of sick bands, but what with there only being ten spots I chose some I thought were influential.

I don't see what all the fuss is about Stone Temple Pilots, I've got two of their albums (Purple and Tiny Music) and they're decent but nothing special. Also I can't stand Pearl Jam, although I like Matt Cameron.
