Wow, that's an interesting way to look at it. I personally would like to think that The Beatles are one of the most influencial rock bands of all time. Rush are about as rock as you can get next to AC/DC and Black Sabbath redefined the genre of rock music in the late 60's.

Well Im not a big fan of 60's rock music anyway (not that I dont like any of it, just isnt my favourite period) so perhaps I just have a jaded perception of what Rock is.
But to me I would class the Beatles as as 'pop' although I know this doesnt fit exactly all of their music, but on a whole (with all the hit singles in mind).
Also you cant doubt their influence on the music scene but for me I feel they are highly overrated (lets not go into too much detail huh? )
and personally I can live without them.

The Beatles early music is definitely rock. If anything, it's some of their later stuff that moves outside of traditional rock territory, but even there I'd still call them a rock band.

Rock can means so different things as there are so many different sub genres of rock.
I do believe the Beatles had a very distinctive sound though and
I guess it would be most suitable to class them as rock but I still wouldnt name them alongside the likes of Black Sabbath & Rush (who to me are nothing like them and miles better IMO).

I like your choice man, now I dont really like the concept of these lists but judging by this one I would only minus the Beatles & Pink Floyd. I havent heard King Crimson yet so cant comment on them.
Also I would have Alice & Chains & Soundgarden higher up the list.
In addition, whether you agree or disagree,
I would rank Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) as the best vocalist of all time sheerly because of his vocal range and the power which emulates from it when he sings.
Please note I am not exactly a huge Soundgarden fan but I have never heard a better singer than Chris Cornell.

oh come on man. i can at least understand why you'd like those other artists but Interpol hasn't lived up to the hype at all. those one-off albums that come out every few years aren't really indicative of talent, just critics misappropriating whose ass to shove their faces in.

in case you want to rip me a new one:

Faith No More
Pink Floyd
Queens of the Stone Age
The Church
Can
Stereolab
Minutemen
The Pretty Things
David Bowie
Primal Scream

probably not actually it but definitely indicative of what i listen to.
