I'm like this with a load of artists, i think the main one out of my faves now would be Belle and Sebastian, used to think they were very lame but they grew on me.
I also laughed at Bowie in Labyrinth when i was a kid, i had no idea i would be later worshipping his music....

I'm warming up to XTC nowadays... my first impression was that they sounded kind of sterile.

REM - Shiny Happy People & Stipe's preachyness put me off them for years. Wasn't until Monster came out that I was interested.

Pink Floyd - I just thought they were so dull. But this was late 80s Pink Floyd so I still think that. The Barrett stuff & Meddle was a real eye opener.

The Fall - Heard a track on a compilation around 1993 & hated it. Later discovered it was just a throwaway B side (Arid Al's Dream) and gave them another chance.

Nick Cave - Heard one of his earlier solo albums (The Good Son ... i think) and thought it was tuneless and boring. Changed my mind when I heard Henry's Dream & Let Love In which seemed to be much more accessable.

Captain Beefheart - Thought Trout Mask Replica was tuneless crap. Went & listened to Safe As Milk and then it made more sense and i got it.

Franz Ferdinand - Was bored of all the hype and hearing Take Me Out about 10 times a day. Changed my mind when I heard Auf Achse & Matinee which I thought were brilliant singles.

The Smiths - Came to the realisation it wasn't the band I hated , just their fans.

Blink 182
The Who
Tom Petty
Underoath
Bob Dylan
Rush

Kinda ironic. The Who and Underoath are two of my favorite bands now.

And I used to hate rap as a whole, until I listened to the old skool stuff.

I find Metallica's music boring and repetitive compared to Megadeth's.

When I was a young un and being a typical metalhead, I hated The Smiths especially Morissey's voice. It represented the complete opposite of thrash and death metal. It only took me a couple of years to to get what they were about and appreciate them.

Pink Floyd's first album completely nonplussed me when I first heard it. I am glad to say that I love it now.

I love Ride The Lightning by Metallica and listen to it a TON more than anything from Megadeath, so I go for Metallica.
