it's pretty vital to him that the music is "cool" and not "emo".
when did these bands become "cool".

at his age hes not listening to the music. hes just likes appearing to have a taste in music that will make him popular, so theres nothing you can do besides get some ear plugs. hey, at least its not rap.

since when does listening to disturbed make you popular? i used to wear disturbed shirts to school and all the cool kids thought i was a freak. you really don't know what you're talking about.

whats cool amongst friends and popularity are sort of different things. They seem to think Disturbed is pretty cool. They also think "headstrong" by Trapt is still cool.

well, what finally got me off all that music was punk rock.

also, you could try instilling the notion that anything that
gets radio play is inherently not cool

Hmm, i a lot of my favorite artists are shared with the older people in my family. Public Enemy, Pharoahe Monch, John Lennon, Pete Rock, Nirvana, Sonic Youth. I would be listening to complete **** if it wasn't for their influence.

I suppose I would reccomend stuff like agent orange, the melvins, wipers, the birthday party. I have never actually listened to "Disturbed", but i think some of the bands i listed may be a good middle ground.

And enough with all the "at least he isn't listening to rap" BS. Since when did so many people my age hate the same music as their parents..

No, then you have to put him out of his misery.
