I have Face to Face. Which I found to be quite decent. I do always have a soft spot for the Kinks.
Why Ray Davies isn't treated like Paul Weller is, I dont know.

Default the Kinks

I love the Kinks in the 1960's because:
- they could lose it and get heavy
- they were pastoral-yearning English brilliance, and I am currently residing in the English countryside
- Ray Davies' vignettes of the disaffected and rejected are brilliant
- they arguably had the single largest influence on the US garage/psych movement, which was jolly good
- their influence eventually consummated in the Blur album 'Modern Life Is Rubbish', a sentiment I thoroughly agree with and the group's best album

I could understand some music fans, those steeped in 'modern' sounds, not connecting with the 'twee-ness', but if you are cool and enjoy the 60's in all it's all it's vast creativity and diversity then you have to at least check out the Kinks. right? I was driving around once with a friend, slammed on some classic Heavy Nuggets, and the best she could do was complain about how bad the quality was...

*3 threads merged.

As good as they are...still grossly under rated.

and, your right, no band is better than the Beatles. The Stones did and album called Between the Buttons which was basically a rip-off of the Kinks and all the quirky, innovative pop of the mid-60's. It's hit and miss but definetly worth checking out.

I happen to think The Kinks are better than the Beatles, but I'm a big Kinks fan and am outrageously biased.

i can definitely respect that...favourite album? I've heard people say they were purely a singles band, this is nonsense:
'Something Else By the Kinks'
'Village Green Preservation Society' (god save mrs.mop, vaudeville and variety)
'Face to Face'
'Arthur' is where I stopped following their saga.

From the fraction of Kinks records I own:
The Village Green Preservation Society > Somthing Else > Kinks Kontroversy > Face To Face

I feel gheey seeing they have a neverending discography
i would appreciated suggestions on what to get next!
