Now its HARD rock?...I recall you saying they were the most influencial hard rock band of the 70s next to Zep, i dont recall the words "hard rock" at all.

You just make crap up as you go.

This argument is going absolutely nowhere. screw censoring swearwords, the word KISS should be bleeped out to prevent this from happening anymore.

Nirvana, for me, are the pinnacle of what a band should be. Simplistic yet fantastic lyrics, bitter and twisted yet melodic songs, a vulnerable yet warming and interesting frontman. A group of oddballs that by pure talent made it to the big time, and managed to stay there through thick and thin. People talk of a rock and roll lifestyle and these guys (especially Kobain) certainly did live one. I never really listened to them before and all the greasy kids with the smiley-faced-tongue-sticking-out t shirts really put me off them. I gave in and bought Nevermind, and haven't looked back since.

I would absolutely disagree that they gained populaity out of pure talent.
Really, the only talented musician in that band was Grohl, people praise Cobain's songwriting skills, and I really dont think he is that great of a songwriter. They made it big because the Mainstream was tired of overproduced, overplayed arena rock. They wanted something new. It wasn't talent that got them to the top, it was Cobains determination to get his music heard. People heard it, and liked it simply because it was refreshing. They definitly didn't make it big on pure talent.

^ehhhh yes even though to play an instument u must be talented, mmmhmmm

bungalow 04-17-2006 02:54 PM

My sister can play the mellowtron, but she cant do it well at all. In fact, I doubt she has ever touched one, if it was put in front of her, she could play it though. That doesn't take talent.

how can she effing play it if she hasnt had one before?

littleknowitall 04-17-2006 03:06 PM

i think what he was trying to say is it doesn't take talent to play it, it takes talent to play it well.

nirvana were and still are overrated in my books, dave grohl was the only talented member of that band and now the tossers wasting himself in the foo fighters, lord knows why..
cobain lacked talent, but was over hyped because of his death and the way he lived his life. in all honesty come as you are and heart shaped box are the only two nirvana songs i find to be worth a listen. the rest is just a bit naff....

TrampInaTux 04-17-2006 03:08 PM

Listen, people aren't that terribly stupid you know. All those millions of people that made Nevermind get to number one in the Billboard charts never bought that album just because they wanted something refreshing. Yes, you're right, they may have wanted something refreshing but you don't honestly think they would have taken any old crap and bought it do you? And as for Cobain's writing skills, there are as many people who say they hate them as there are people who say they love them. They hit a chord with me for some reason, so I'm in the latter category. Hey, you might not like them, that's your opinion I ain't going to change it. But to say that they got by solely because the public wanted something refreshing is totally wrong.

nirvana is pretty poppy compared to mudhoney, greenriver, and mother love bone

bleach is a effin awesome album though, killer
