READ THIS: That was an example of kids these days, but I do enjoy listening to some old Green Day every once in a while

I don't understand how listening to Satriani has anything to do with Nirvana anyway. Maybe if you knew who the Vaselines and the Meat Puppets are I could see where that argument would be coming from.
Also, I don't think there's anyone who's only heard Smells Like Teen Spirit. Whether they know it or not, it's inevitable that they've heard Rape Me, All Apologies, etc. |

I never meant that in an elitist way, such as the previous poster, but I would argue that seeing as how both of those bands had a strong influence on Nirvana, Kurt in particular, and the fact that grunge in general grew from the indie scene of the 80s, that those bands among others like Sonic Youth and Husker Du would have more to do with appreciating Nirvana than Dream Theater or Satriani, who really fall more into the progressive self-indulgent rock category that punk, and in turn the genres that grew out of it like indie and grunge, was against.
That has got to be the longest and most convoluted sentence I've ever written. It's too late for this ****. |

Nirvana....possibly the most overrated band ever, next to gc and the white stripes of course. Worshipped by so many, but for what reason? Because Cobain was an emo kid? Try dinosaur JR or the pixies, DJ being pre-nirvana, and so much better!

Such as...? How about Nirvanas lack of musical talent? Good enough? Or maybe their image? All I am saying is NIrvanas musical talent or what they brought to the music world is no where near proportional to their fame. There are a few quazillion (exaggeration for the less intelligent) kids that run around and cry about how great Nirvana was but have no knowledge of them whatsoever, just what some clown in a forum online wrote about how they started grunge and were so ahead of their time. When the bands i listed in my prior post are two of the many that are so much more advanced and talented, just dont have the correct image and fame they deserve.

And dont jump to conclusions, not every Nirvana fan is some immature kid who knows little about music and not everyone here is just some stupid kid who dosent even know the band that well... I own the bands entire discography and i have been a devoted fan for as long as i can remember, i have listened to almost every technical virtuoso band you can think of, and i still prefer Nirvana. |
