Anyways all the talk about Smells Like Teen Spirit. Airplay killed it. It wasn't really a brilliant song to begin with and I can't see why it is Nirvana's most popular song. It doesn't have anything that no other Nirvana songs have. The lyrics are stupid, it has the slow-to-fast guitar playing that so many other Nirvana songs have. I guess it was a word of mouth thing, and the video probably did it a lot of favours aswell. |

It dosent sound very different from the other songs they did, that is true, it was just their overall sound that appealed to most people, SLTS just happened to be the first single, but it wouldn't have mattered what the first single was... If it was In Bloom or Lithium i still dont think it would make a difference, i do love SLTS though, though it is ridiculously overplayed. |

But you see it wasn't originally going to be their first single (that was Lithium) Nirvana had to change what their first single was going to be because of popular demand for Smells Like Teen Spirit. And as for the chorus of SLTS, it is pure stupid. I do agree with youabout the verses though, even if they aren't Nirvana's best. I still don't understand what was the appeal of SLTS over all the other better songs on the album. Now this is a very stupid guess, but I think it was the fact that you couldn't really hear what Cobain was saying. When I heard that song for the first time it was kind of haunting, like a dying mans last breaths. Then it kicks into the chorus and you're like holy ****. It's basically the same as most other popular Nirvana songs, only the sound is worse.

My opinion of SLTS never changed, always liked it and always will.
I'm more about the performance than the lyrics...And lyrics dont indicate how emotional a song is or how much feeling it has either. |

Kurt Cobains Lyrics - Garbage?? or Genius??
a mosquito, my libido....
was this guy any good with lyrics? or was it just a bunch of crap that is now through revionist history, hailed as over-rated genius???? Kurt himself said he wrote crap disjointed lyrics and wited until the last minute and that none of it made any sense really. He said that in 1993 about his lyrics, that people read too much into them , and that really, he just wrote a bunch of garbage that sometimes made no sense, and live he would sometimes trick the crowd by singing non-sensical crap into the mic, he do that for fun sometimes. |

Lyrically, he had fun with it, not the first or last to do it. But his vocals themselves...that was crap.
