don't get me wrong I love Slowdive!
I always thought Ride were only slightly overrated... TBH i need alot more shoegaze. it has to be said though that no album makes more sense at 5 in the morning after 36 hours awake than Loveless. I guess it's cause you're in the same zone than Shields was when he recorded it. You have to love the seemingly endless layers of distorted guitars...oh and the chord bending! |

^^ ahhh "You Made Me Realise"!
the feedback bit in the middle is bliss. About Ride...I've only heard "Nowhere", and apparently they got worse after that, but I think that's a really good album. Not up to par with the best shoegaze albums, but I like it quite a bit. To me it sounds like a really young, impressionable band trying to emulate their idols, and doing a damn good job of it. I dunno why I feel that, but there's an slightly amateurish, youthful quality about the album. Or so I like to think. |

the aforementioned Swirlies are ****ing brilliant. thanks for the tip
How could I forget Blur on their first album Leisure??? Most of that album you have to classify as shoegaze... I love this video, it's infamous for the fact that Damon Albarn (the singer) had consumed ecstasy about half an hour beforehand, it's so obvious when you watch him. Lol @ Graham Coxon having to mime playing the reverse-guitar solo. Halcyon days to be sure... Bring back bowl haircuts. Lush were great aswell... Last edited by Molecules; 02-07-2008 at 04:53 AM. |

Blonder Tongue Audio Baton by the Swirlies is one of Bob Mould's favourite albums of all time, I remember reading. It's definitely a top 90s album, that's for sure. It's got the lazy, slacker attitude of bands like Sebadoh and Pavement, some almost Polvo-esque slide guitar work, with all the shoegaze influences in there as well. Really cool band.
