Shoegaze (indie, myspace, tracks, quote, bands)

Does anyone like Amp? They're not (strictly speaking) shoegaze, but definitely have a lot in common with the scene and were associated heavily with it. I'm listening to Stenorette now and I'm enjoying it a lot.

That band has been popping up alot lately... I think it's about time to give them a listen.

I've really been getting into Pia Fraus lately. "Mooie Island" is an amazing EP and the title track is one of my favorite songs of the month. it's definately worth checking out even if you're not a fan of dream pop/shoegaze.

my current favorite shoegaze band is ride. i love their song "vapour trail".

early (and recent album) Brian Jonestown massacre I know about, and I guess early Apples in Stereo were a bit more noise-based?
I love the way the whole multi-layered feedback distortion stuff was briefly a sort of nu-psychedelia movement of it's own...

edit: ofcourse it all goes back to sonic youth but you know what i mean...

I saw My Bloody Valentine at The Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland, and again in Manchetser last year.
It was amazing, prepare for a great gig.

Also prepare for about 25 minutes of intense distortion at the end! A lot of people in the crowd at both gigs didn't like it, I think some peoples ears were starting to bleed!

I saw them here in Austin this past April (one of, I think, five US dates?).
They did the extended noise jam at the end - man, it was intense. I think I remember reading about how they always did that "back in the day" but I had forgotten. I really had never experienced anything like it despite all the eardrum-crushing bands I have seen play. The vibrations felt like they were disintegrating my body. At times I actually felt like I might vomit (it passed). I didn't see anybody faint but it wouldn't have surprised me.
Also, the light show was seizure-inducing throughout most of the set. I spent a lot of time looking down at the back of the person in front of me.. When it was all over people looked around at each other like "can you believe that...?"

Number Girl and Nanocycle are a couple of Japanese bands I have been listening to recently although Number Girl incorporate a little more noise into their sound.
