^ thanks
hmmm, well souvlaki is fairly outstanding. The more I listen to Pygmalion though, the more it blows my mind. It's such a strange and compelling album. It's so full of mesmerising and trippy subtleties, with strange droning guitars over some beatifully strummed melodies, and the sparse instrumentation. Totally hypnotic and wonderfully produced, and with some of the most beautiful and eerie melodies I've ever heard as well. And the vocals as well, the way they're layered over it all creating that echo-vocal-wall effect is stunning. It is like every single sound has been meticulously thought out, and the dynamics of those sounds as well, and it all mixed together absolutely perfectly. Souvlaki is amazing, but this to me is their masterpiece. It evolved them from merely another shoegaze band (although a particularly good one!) to something more eclectic. The percussion is so subtle and strange, and the guitar work is unlike anything I've ever heard. How they came up with this stuff and made it work so well is beyond me. This to me is the perfect album to just lose yourself in, and also the perfect album to listen to while smoking some joints, for those of us into that. Ahhh this album is driving me crazy. Souvlaki Space Station is still my favourite Slowdive song though. |

OK - not exactly a pure shoegaze compilation, more a 10 track shoegaze / noise / influenced by compilation...
1. Loop - Collision. The track that got me into this band. Taken from the 12" single. 2. My Bloody Valentine - Thorn. Beautiful track from the You Made Me Realise E.P. 3. Swervedriver - Rave Down. Lead track from the band's second E.P. 4. The Jesus & Mary Chain - My Little Underground. From the B-side of Psychocandy. 5. Lush - Etherial. The second time I saw Loop, Lush were the support band. this is from the Scar E.P. 6. Bleach - Seeing. A much under-rated track from one of the lesser known shoegaze bands of the time. taken from their Snag E.P. 7. Curve - The Colour Hurts. Curve were one of those bands that you couldn't quite catergorise. Part shoegaze / part goth influenced. This is from the Frozen E.P. 8. Cocteau Twins - Aikea-Guinea. Classic pre-shoegaze influencers. 9. The Telescopes - Please, Before You Go. A dirty great slab of noise from the Taste L.P. 10. Mudhoney - Revolution. An homage to Spacemen 3. B-side to This Gift E.P. PM me if you want a download link. The tracks are in the correct order but are un-named (as I digitzed some direct from vinyl). |

Mudhoney Basterdized the song "revolution" by Spacemen 3. And Sonic Boom and J Spaceman retaliated by ****ing up the song "When Tomorrow Hits" by Mudhoney.
Revolution by Spacemen 3 Well look out Well I’m sick I’m so sick Of a lot of people Tryin’ to tell me What I can and can’t do With my life And I’m tired I’m so tired Of a lot of people In a lot of high places Don’t want you and me To enjoy ourselves Well I’m through with people Who can’t get off their arse To help themselves change this government And better this society ‘Cos it’s **** But hold on a second I smell burning And I see a change Comin’ ‘round the bend And I suggest to you That it takes Just five seconds Just five seconds Of decision To realise That the time Is right To start thinkin’ about A little… Revolution! Revolution by Mudhoney Allright, look out I’m sick I’m so sick Of getting sick Everytime I lose my connection I’m tired So tired Of getting up in the morning For that long uphill walk To the methadone clinic There’s gotta be an easier way Now hold on a second This burnin’ There’s a change comin’ My blackened spoon I suggest to you, That it takes five seconds Just five seconds To put a morphine suppository All the way inside Brothers and sisters Do you know what I’m talkin’ about? I’m talkin about a full on Mother****ing Revolution Last edited by Farfisa; 03-14-2008 at 10:56 PM. |
