Yea, I remember you posting that earlier. I thought the song was fairly enjoyable, but... I'm too cheap to purchase the EP, haha.

^ Nice. Dean Garcia's in SPC ECO as well isn't he? I've heard some of their stuff and they're not bad.

Been enjoying Stella Luna's 2002 E.P. Stargazer lately. It contains four tracks of dense and distorted yet dreamy and beautiful music. It was the band's only release unfortunately and it's a real shame they didn't record a full-length album.

This song is incredible:

I've listened to them and kind of felt they were a tad generic. I'm going to give them another chance since I totally forgot about them until your post, but sadly there is quite a lot of shoegaze around that is pretty uninspired. That's why I'm pretty hopeful for bands like Ringo Deathstarr... After their debut this year I'm convinced they can do something really creative with the genre.

Shoegaze by definition has a very specific, almost formulaic set of conventions. The sound is very particular, which is why I rate the likes of Bowery Electric, because they manage to bring something different to the table. As a band, you're limited in what you can do before deviating away from the sound. Consequently, you find a lot of uninspiring, derivative crap within the genre. I like Stella Luna though, they do it well.

I wouldn't say they were too generic or derivative. They seem to use space rock influences to good effect and it sets them apart from being another MBV or Slowdive rip-off.

I love Ringo Deathstarr's album but I think shoegaze has reached it's creative limits. Apart from that album and Asobi Seksu's latest, other stuff I've heard this year sounded like a rehash of old ideas with little or no progression.

Downloaded that album a few weeks ago and I love it. It so relaxing and the layered sounds give it a kind of dreamy feel. Decided my favorite track is 'Easy.' I really hope to hear more from this band!

I don't think these bands have been mentioned yet.

Starflyer 59 are actually a Christian band, but don't let that put you off. Their 1994 debut Silver is a great album.

An English band that released music in the late 80's and early 90s. This is a nice little tune from 1991.

The Angelic Process seem to straddle both shoegaze and drone doom metal. Their last album Weighing Souls With Sand is one of the most noisiest, beautiful, emotional and intense albums I've ever listened to. The fact that their frontman took his own life a year after releasing this album makes it all the more emotional.
