Lo fi with a less than impressive production but it still delivers the goods. Well worth checking out:

I can say without a doubt in my mind Medicine are the most underrated shoegaze band. I know they're widely regarded as the US equivalent of MBV, but for some reason they don't get anywhere near the same amount of respect. Of course I like MBV a bit more, but these guys are very close behind. And they weren't just a copy. Maybe it's just that somehow MBV transcended the whole shoegaze movement to just be popular among everyone, while Medicine never garnered the same type of attention. Still, they have plenty of songs that will blow anyone's mind and eardrums.

I have a handful of Medicine mp3s in my library but no complete albums. I have this song though. I love the ear-splitting treble guitar tone and the way the music gets faster and faster at the end.

I only have the album Watching Black which is damn good but that seems more of a Trip hop album to me. Is Susurrate a Shoegaze album then?

so what's everyone else's reaction to the grungy shoegaze revival, i.e. shitgaze? i haven't heard more than a handful of bands and they were all awful live (for the record, that's No Age, Deerhunter & Wavves). a bastardization of the original goodiness to be sure, but i suppose some people enjoy it.

I remember seeing the word "shitgaze" about a year ago as a joke to describe Japanther and I laughed really hard, then all of a sudden people starting taking it seriously and now apparently it's a "legitimate" genre to describe hipster punk bands who happen to own Loveless. Weird.
Also I love the new Jesu EP, Opiate Sun. Anyone else here into it? |
