This definitely is a wonderful mix. Listened to it twice already and that's a winner in my book :wave:.

I slightly prefer the first half, but both are almost equally good. I love the more noisy stuff...A Place To Bury Strangers, Alcest, Ride etc. although mixing it up doesn't hurt at all. In fact, I think this is a nicely varied list. Got some of those, and don't have quite a few others as well. Definitely keeping this :D.

I knew that Jackhammer would include a bunch of 1st wave shoegaze, which tends to be noisier. Most of the tracks I included in this comp are fairly recent (Autolux, Pia Fraus, Air Formation, Flying Saucer Attack) and are more dream popy.

Well, to be fair though, the compilation wouldn't have been the same without those tracks. The Flying Saucer Attack and Spacemen 3 tracks are absolute belters. It's just that I'm a sucker for noise.

I did put some 1st wave in there but the really noisy tracks that Demonoid likes are from 2007! Here are the contributors:

'Battle of Sealand' by Chicago group Airiel hits the spot. They use a drum machine on a couple of tracks and somehow get away with it. Plus they're noisy. Airiel - think tank

The only band missing from this is The Warlocks, they produce some excellent dream pop/rock. The Phoenix album in particular.

I hastily downloaded 2005's 'Surgery' in anticipation of seeing them support BRMC the year before last, I wasn't hugely impressed (probably because I hardly listened to it) but they were much more enjoyable as a live drone-fest...
The West Coast Brian Jonestown Massacre lineage has yielded some cool music even if it's firmly stuck in the late 80's; I just have to be in the mood for most of it!

Aye, 'tis the shizz. Infact it would have unwittingly been my first exposure to the 'shoegaze continuum', quite an epic album. I'm sure plenty of people at the time judged them on their hit singles and didn't get to experience the spaced-out drone of 'Red Eyes and Tears' etc...
I'm in the zone with this Warlocks album btw, will have to get around to 'phoenix' one of these days.

I also motion for another shoegaze/dream pop/etc compilation to enter the planning stages, the last one was doing alot.

Its an excellent album, its a shame they were lumped in the with garage-rock revival because i think as an album it has a lot of merit. Take Them On... and Howl are both great as well, although Howl is not at all in the realms of shoegaze. Yep, they got me into J&MC.

Phoenix is a better album IMO, although Come Save Us, the opener on Surgery, is probably my favourite Warlocks song
