I love prog. It's just not my favorite genre. I consider myself a proghead because it's my favorite rock sub-genre, and I'm a fanatic of KC, Porcupine Tree, and Yes.

Lizzie 02-04-2008 11:14 PM

I like Guns N Roses and no, they were not hair metal or glam metal at all, and yes they were slightly original back then. They were a good band

QueenNothing 02-05-2008 08:07 AM

Metallica. Who else?

.Tom. 02-07-2008 08:56 AM

Metallica. A friend burned me Master of Puppets years ago and I found it pretty boring at the time. It took me about 3 years to actually appreciate it, I think.

Elv3n 02-07-2008 04:47 PM

I think i was indoctrinated form a young age with ZZ top and Metallica, as well as Gary Moore's metal works!

<3_BEAUTIFUL_HELL_FAIRY_<3 02-11-2008 09:36 AM

ummmm geee... i thinki was like only 3 or 4 if not younger.... but i am assuming it was probably metalica or maybe nine inch nails...... i am not sure.......(not saying that they sound the same but i can't remember which one it was.)

Wrath_Child 02-11-2008 11:13 PM

The summer before second grade in 91, my babysitter showed me metallica, later on my dad took me to the mall and i bought Ride The Lightning, Lifes been ****ING great ever since!

STUPIFIED 02-12-2008 03:32 PM

Ozzy or Metallica, from my childhood (90s)

Farfisa 02-12-2008 04:33 PM

thats tuff i was into industrial metal when i was like 7....hahahaha......id have to say ministry

white_powered_zombie 02-15-2008 12:06 AM

hmmm Rob Zombie, if they fit under metal? I'd say more rock but anyhoo, Sepultura was probably the first big metal band I heard.

+}-136-{+ 02-23-2008 12:50 AM

The closest thing to metal/rock I first heard when I was a child was Rob Zombie's song, "Dragula", off the Matrix soundtrack. It blew me away. I don't listen to Rob Zombie anymore though.

miskit 02-23-2008 08:55 PM

megadeath

sweet_nothing 02-24-2008 11:13 AM

Iron Maiden in the 7th grade.

iLoveBlood 03-01-2008 02:53 PM

Had to hide a copy of Appetite for Destruction from my mom when I was like nine.

JonSz 03-01-2008 08:36 PM

Maybe Sabbath. Kiss in the late 70's? Or WASP and Motley Crue in '83. The mid '80's was when, in my opinion, "metal" first started. Metallica, Judas Priest, Slayer, Megadeth and Iron Maiden brought heavy metal to life.

TheCaster 03-03-2008 07:17 AM

black sabbath

What does "Metal" mean?

Avarice 03-05-2008 10:14 AM

The first metal band I've ever listened to was Moistboyz. My dad showed it to me when i was about 5.

MeltingPot 03-07-2008 05:55 AM

First "metal" band was likely Sabbath in the late seventies... but I would say first band in the 80's era that ushered in the real big metal movement that I heard was Metallica when I got a copy of "No Life Till Leather" demo.

bassist324 03-07-2008 11:34 AM

For me it was Fear Factory, because of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack.

DearJenny 03-13-2008 12:24 PM

I was brought up in country.

So the first metal I listened to on my own accord was probably KoRn/Slipknot/Manson/Rammstien because they were "big" metal when I started looking for my own music.

saussage627 03-15-2008 01:13 AM

metallica's ...and justice for all. great album.

Fredder 03-30-2008 10:30 PM

Ac/dc

TheJew 03-30-2008 10:37 PM

Ozzy(if you consider him so)

My dad used to play him on the way to school even when I was in like, kindergarten.

Oomph! 03-31-2008 06:51 PM

Metallica, 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', Woodstock 94. Single handidly made me interested in music.

tom17583 04-01-2008 12:06 PM

Iron Maiden when I was 13. I was clueless. My gran bought me a cd player and i was like , okay I need to buy some cd's. I got Oasis and all that crap and then one day I saw the maiden best of the beast record. The artwork was class. So I took a chance and I loved it. Fear of the dark rules. I bought loads of their stuff after that , then Metallica Machine etc. A metal head was born

NSW 04-01-2008 10:30 PM

Pretty sure it was Metallica for me.

15Steps 04-02-2008 12:11 AM

Sabbath lol...

Seems to be everyones first metal band.

EVAD 04-02-2008 08:10 PM

I bought The Number of the Beast from Iron Maiden when I was around 13. The cover scared the crap out of me, in fact it still does. However I have grown to embrace the Beast rather than fight against it

:yikes:

AC/DC - not such a big fan nowadays.

Far Beyond Driven 04-20-2008 04:29 PM

Black Sabbath, or it might have been Metallica, who cares.

Demonoid 04-25-2008 12:24 AM

Ufo.
Michael Schenker is one of the best guitarist imo.

Hunty 04-26-2008 08:16 PM

Yep. Sabbath here. Pop's showed me the light at 6 or 7yrs old

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 04-27-2008 05:04 PM

Disturbed was the band that got me into metal, even though none of you will think they are the ideal metal band.

My first taste of extreme metal, I guess, would be Dimmu Borgir.

beyond-hourglass 04-29-2008 06:36 PM

oh man, the first metal band i ever listened to was, uh, i think lamb of god.
that or olllddd cradle of filth, i cant remember what came first
its like the chicken or the egg, you know. its hard to decide
