The closest thing to metal/rock I first heard when I was a child was Rob Zombie's song, "Dragula", off the Matrix soundtrack. It blew me away. I don't listen to Rob Zombie anymore though.

Maybe Sabbath. Kiss in the late 70's? Or WASP and Motley Crue in '83. The mid '80's was when, in my opinion, "metal" first started. Metallica, Judas Priest, Slayer, Megadeth and Iron Maiden brought heavy metal to life.
