Kurt Cobain said Nevermind was too slick and poppy for his tastes and that In Utero was the album he was most proud of. That being said Nevermind is easily my least favorite Nirvana album while In Utero is easily my favorite.

It doesn't surprise me that in retrospect, Cobain would disown Nevermind. He absolutely hated the success it brought him. I mean, Crowquill, do you actually think Cobain thought he was being slick and poppy when he was writing the record? Nevermind has some gems like Territorial Pissings and Something in the Way. Actually, I like all the songs that haven't got a sh*t load of radio play. |

You don't have to hate on something because it's popular. Just because Nevermind was popular doesn't make it bad. You shouldn't let how many records were sold or how much the songs were played on the radio influence your opinion of the music.

Which makes sense when you think about it. Of course he could have gone to another indie label but took Thurston Moore's advice & went to Geffen. And signing to a major doesn't automatically give you success.

I couldnt agree more, In Utero is such a departure from what they did previously. I love when bands get heavier and less poppy haha, like finch with Say Hello To Sunshine

i don't think it was ever an issue of the bands disliking success. they disliked the way mass media warped their success to propagate their own ends.
either way in utero owns. DOLL STEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
