To further illustrate the point lets look at history, shall we?

Hottest metal albums by year:

1980 Ace of Spades - Motorhead
1981 Diary of a Madman - Ozzy Osbourne
1982 Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden
1983 Holy Diver - Dio
1984 Ride the Lightning - Metallica
1985 Bonded By Blood - Exodus
1986 Master of Puppets - Metallica
1987 Among The Living - Anthrax
1988 ...And Justice For All - Metallica
1989 Beneath The Remains - Sepultura
1990 Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer
1991 self-titled - Metallica
1992 Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera
1993 Undertow - Tool
1994 Far Beyond Driven - Pantera
1995 Astro-Creep: 2000 - White Zombie
1996 Aenima - Tool
1997 The More Things Change... - Machine Head
1998 Follow The Leader - Korn
1999 The Gathering - Testament
2000 Clayman - In Flames
2001 Iowa - Slipknot
2002 The Art of Balance - Shadows Fall
2003 The Impossibility Of Reason - Chimaira
2004 Leviathan - Mastodon

(Dimebag Darrell dies Dec. 8, 2004)

2005 Ghost Reveries - Opeth
2006 Inhuman Rampage - Dragonforce
2007 The Dethalbum - Dethklok

... and, yes, I know people will bitch about Korn/Slipknot/Tool not being "real metal". Spare me.
DRAGONFORCE? XD

2004: Mastodon's "Leviathan"
(2005, the first Guitar Hero game is released)
2006: DragonForce's "Inhuman Rampage"
2007: Dethklok's "The Dethalbum"

I guess it's Guitar Hero's fault.
The fact that "****ty" metal albums have been topping the charts should not be heralded as an indicator for the genre. 2007 was a great year for DM and '08 should be awesome for all styles.

Also, keep in mind that the people who go out and buy these CD's are the ones who pay to go to Ozzfest. Their opinion = nothing substantial.

I hope you correct him/her by mentioning how that idea is a load of rubbish, and that if it's true that metal is "dead", then it would have died a long time before Dimebag did. Suffice to say, it's as alive and well as any other genre.

If anything, metal has been rejuvenated since 2004. The net has really helped bring back the DIY underground metal scene.

the internet has also brought more people to listen to metal. but with dimebag on a few peoples minds they dont know whether they should listen to crap shoot music or should they listen to the music dimebag recommends for them. i personally stopped listening to what dimebag says only to the point to where i could listen to music that i wanna listen to.

What the hell does this post even mean? Did you talk to Darrel? Did he recommend music to you?

Coherence! COHERENCE!
