Default Metal Died With Dimebag

I kept waiting and waiting for it bounce back but, in my opinion, it just never did. Not that there aren't good metal bands out there right now... But, honestly, when is the last time ANYTHING truly great and original came out in the metal genre?

I guess part of it is my age and part of it is my preference for blues-based music (which doesn't seem to be "in" right now), but I just yawn every time I hear new "heavy" music.

The # 1 metal album on Amazon.com right now is from a bunch of cartoon characters called "Dethklok". (sigh)

Um, I don't like metal or look into it but I think treating it like Dimebag was the last "true metal" artist is pretty ignorant.

Dimebag was certainly not the "last" true metal artist (I never said that, did I?)... Guys like Iommi, Kerry King, Zakk Wylde are still the gods that they always were. I was speaking about the genre in general. Dimebag being martyred on stage was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

... That, and Ozzy doing a Pepsi commercial with Donnie and Marie Osmond.

(Yawn)
Sure.
Like I said, there are good bands (Hatebreed comes to mind). I just think it's fading away. Every time I hear kids talk about Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, or (God help us all) Finger Eleven as being "Heavy Metal" - I just get more discouraged.

HE WAS NOT MARTYRED!

Wrong place, wrong time.

Go listen to Hellyeah. Dimebag was a great guitarist, but there are hundreds of bands that are a million times better than Pantera/Damageplan and have been putting out quality records ever since.

Hellyeah is alright. I think Mudvayne is a pretty good band. I'm not saying that there no more good bands out there... I guess one would have to actually have been alive and aware during the golden age of metal (1980-1991) to know what I am looking for.
