All I can think about lately is the VAST show Im going to see next month (Jan 23 at the Bluebird in Denver if youre interested) and its got me thinking about the best live hard rock/metal group out there? Any thougts on who puts on the best show???

O'Bannion 12-12-2007 12:17 PM

In order:

Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Queens of the Stone Age
Autolux

teshadoh 12-12-2007 12:34 PM

QOTSA put on a good show a few years ago when I saw them, but found it kind of boring without Oliveri.

My vote would be for Mastodon.

British_pharaoh 12-12-2007 03:17 PM

i'm going to see Smashing Pumpkins in February I imagine they'll be stellar

Brock_West 12-12-2007 03:39 PM

Kiss

Joshee 12-12-2007 05:31 PM

I don't like sounding like a try hard mod,
But the amount of "best band live" threads seems to be increasing.
*cough* search button.

Clownbaby 12-12-2007 09:39 PM

Maybe I'm biased because I like these guys so much but Between The Buried and Me is amazing live for how technical their instrumentation is and their vocalist's growl and clean vocals sound exactly the same live as they do on the albums.

I also agree with whoever said Mastodon and Tool...Tool gives great performances.

Yep me too, seeing them in Dublin though. Its gonna be one hell of a gig. Best live bands i've seen are Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and Foo Fighters.

Def Leppard. They're great live.

On the basis of Thursday Night:

Gogol Bordello

Vulphus 12-17-2007 02:29 PM

QOTSA without doubt. I hear Tool are pretty fantabulous too.

Clockwork_Changes 12-17-2007 04:54 PM

Pink Floyd they sound just like in the studio basically.

Laces Out Dan! 12-17-2007 05:42 PM

The Fall of Troy. Hands down, and if anyone disagrees, feel free to search youtube.
Portugal. The Man also puts on an amazing show I've heard. John sounds amazing live which sort of suprised me since he sings so high in some songs.

seconded- gogol SHREDS live... i was going to say Primus- i can't even imagine how awesome it would have been to see the tour where gogol opened for them...

Night_Lamp 12-21-2007 02:49 PM

KISS - Love or hate their music, it's ONE HELL of a show.

Black Crowes- Never seen another band play blues in E for 40 minutes and hold my attention.

Oasis- Very high marks for live playing, really rocked. But nothing to watch. Not even a good light show.

Tom Petty- I saw him on the 'Echo' tour in Toronto. Perfect outdoor show, hit after hit song, lying on the grass smoking J's. When he did the 'Full Moon Fever' era stuff, he had a big lighted chest on stage he took that felt mad hatter's hat out in ripped into 'Runnin Down a Dream'. What a show.

tool is amazing live. especially with the light shows and amazing vocals.
they sound just like they do on there albums.
its so amazing and worth every cent.

Merkaba 12-21-2007 11:04 PM

This is Tool 15 years ago, minus the lightshow they now use.

under 12-22-2007 10:45 AM

some people say that the lightshow at a tool performance takes away the excitement of the show. i dont get that. thats what i've heard. its like...wow. get a life dude.

YSHKMWYHTC 12-24-2007 05:13 PM

Seen a handful of signed bands live.

In order of how great they were:
Alexisonfire
Nine Inch Nails
Slayer
Foo Fighters
Mastodon
Attack In Black
Silversun Pickups
Carnún Rising

under 12-24-2007 08:55 PM

i heard Nine Inch Nails were great live. unless i heard wrong. and Mastodon is supposed to be good. but i wasn't convinced when i saw them.

joyboyo53 12-24-2007 09:29 PM

some of my favorite live performances were by :

muse - epic live performance with energy that kept flowing, i have made previous post about this

pearl jam - these guys have been doing it longer and harder and with more enthusiasm than most for about 15 years now

daft punk - simply amazing

Haha all I was showing is that even without the visuals back in the early days, they still had something going for them, that video is pure energy.

And it wouldn't really be a post of mine if I didn't tell you all to stick this in your browser and crank it.

Yeah NIN were ****ing awesome.
Mastodon were ok but the sound quality was pretty ****e.

sleepy jack 12-25-2007 11:23 AM

I don't really like NIN but I kind of want to see them live because I've heard they're amazing live from a variety of people, some who weren't even NIN fans and it makes me really curious as to what it's like.

YSHKMWYHTC 12-25-2007 11:25 AM

Depends what kind of set they play.
When I saw them it was a really energetic fast set.

under 12-25-2007 10:29 PM

so it depends if its fast and slow. im hoping to see them live. ethan lets hook up and have a NIN orgy. haha :D

O'Bannion 12-27-2007 07:51 AM

Nine Inch Nails is the greatest live band ever. PERIOD. I've seen them 4 times and every time they blew me away. I've never seen a show were spectacle and the music molded so well together.

**** it, I'm gonna post a bunch of live **** from them:

YouTube - Nine Inch Nails - Wish: Live, DTS 5.1 Surround Version

YouTube - Nine Inch Nails 'March of the Pigs' ((Live from AATCHB))

YouTube - happiness in slavery (live)

YouTube - NIN - The Great Destroyer live in Europe, Aug 2007

YouTube - Nine Inch Nails Gave Up ((Live from AATCHB)) (The lights during the finale of this video are phenomenal)

YouTube - NIN - the mark has been made

Or you can just buy the And All That Could Have Been DVD that got put out 5 years ago. Which documents the Fragility 2.0 tour which, by the way, music critics named the best tour of 2000.

LazyFingers 12-27-2007 03:41 PM

The Darkness with JH were unfookin'believeable live, great stage show and great music!
Iron Maiden in '03 were class, it was the first time I've seen them, the second time was a let down though.

Hammerfall was one of the most amazing nights ever!

LazyFingers 12-28-2007 01:55 AM

2006 I think, the setlist wasn't as good, and ya know the way it is when you have already seen a band.

Still a great gig though!

British_pharaoh 12-28-2007 05:02 AM

i'll get back to this thread on april 13th after I've seen the Smashing pumpkins in february and Clinic in April

LazyFingers 12-28-2007 11:44 AM

In that case I'll be getting back to after I see the Pumpkins in Ireland and Satch in May :D

YSHKMWYHTC 12-28-2007 01:24 PM

You going to Pumpkins in Dublin?
Apparently they suck nowadays live:(

No you suck

:D j/k

YSHKMWYHTC 12-28-2007 03:31 PM

haha.
A friend went to see them in San Fran so thats where I got that from.

grayareas 01-06-2008 08:35 PM

The Showdown. Bar none the best live performance I've ever seen. They don't play any 2 shows exactly the same way. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are pretty amazing live as well. Besides those, though, I think the best live shows I've seen have been mostly local bands from my area. Embracing Goodbye kill. Injun Joe are amazing, as are A Candlelight Massacre, The 7 Method, Narallis, Unending Blame, Dathan, and Bloodline Severed. Loxstep were good while they lasted. Black Rose Mourning are pretty amazing. Chocha Loca are great blues rock.

15Steps 01-07-2008 03:59 PM

The Good the Bad and the Queen - best NEW live band imho

austin1292 01-24-2008 12:11 PM

I saw the Smashing Pumpkins several months ago, and they completely blew me away. I was amazed. Billy Corgan has such a unique voice, and it totally completes the band. They have been around for a while too.

Comus 01-24-2008 12:29 PM

Wishbone Ash have never disappointed.
