Best live band???
All I can think about lately is the VAST show Im going to see next month (Jan 23 at the Bluebird in Denver if youre interested) and its got me thinking about the best live hard rock/metal group out there? Any thougts on who puts on the best show???
|
In order:
Nine Inch Nails Tool Queens of the Stone Age Autolux |
QOTSA put on a good show a few years ago when I saw them, but found it kind of boring without Oliveri.
My vote would be for Mastodon. |
i'm going to see Smashing Pumpkins in February I imagine they'll be stellar
|
Kiss
|
I don't like sounding like a try hard mod,
But the amount of "best band live" threads seems to be increasing. *cough* search button. |
Maybe I'm biased because I like these guys so much but Between The Buried and Me is amazing live for how technical their instrumentation is and their vocalist's growl and clean vocals sound exactly the same live as they do on the albums.
I also agree with whoever said Mastodon and Tool...Tool gives great performances. |

Def Leppard. They're great live.
|
On the basis of Thursday Night:
Gogol Bordello |
QOTSA without doubt. I hear Tool are pretty fantabulous too.
|
Pink Floyd they sound just like in the studio basically.
|
The Fall of Troy. Hands down, and if anyone disagrees, feel free to search youtube.
Portugal. The Man also puts on an amazing show I've heard. John sounds amazing live which sort of suprised me since he sings so high in some songs. |

Its full on 100% from those guys every show. from start to finish |

KISS - Love or hate their music, it's ONE HELL of a show.
Black Crowes- Never seen another band play blues in E for 40 minutes and hold my attention. Oasis- Very high marks for live playing, really rocked. But nothing to watch. Not even a good light show. Tom Petty- I saw him on the 'Echo' tour in Toronto. Perfect outdoor show, hit after hit song, lying on the grass smoking J's. When he did the 'Full Moon Fever' era stuff, he had a big lighted chest on stage he took that felt mad hatter's hat out in ripped into 'Runnin Down a Dream'. What a show. |

they sound just like they do on there albums. its so amazing and worth every cent. |
This is Tool 15 years ago, minus the lightshow they now use. |
some people say that the lightshow at a tool performance takes away the excitement of the show. i dont get that. thats what i've heard. its like...wow. get a life dude.
|
Seen a handful of signed bands live.
In order of how great they were: Alexisonfire Nine Inch Nails Slayer Foo Fighters Mastodon Attack In Black Silversun Pickups Carnún Rising |
i heard Nine Inch Nails were great live. unless i heard wrong. and Mastodon is supposed to be good. but i wasn't convinced when i saw them.
|
some of my favorite live performances were by :
muse - epic live performance with energy that kept flowing, i have made previous post about this pearl jam - these guys have been doing it longer and harder and with more enthusiasm than most for about 15 years now daft punk - simply amazing |

And it wouldn't really be a post of mine if I didn't tell you all to stick this in your browser and crank it. |

Mastodon were ok but the sound quality was pretty ****e. |
I don't really like NIN but I kind of want to see them live because I've heard they're amazing live from a variety of people, some who weren't even NIN fans and it makes me really curious as to what it's like.
|
Depends what kind of set they play.
When I saw them it was a really energetic fast set. |
so it depends if its fast and slow. im hoping to see them live. ethan lets hook up and have a NIN orgy. haha :D
|
Nine Inch Nails is the greatest live band ever. PERIOD. I've seen them 4 times and every time they blew me away. I've never seen a show were spectacle and the music molded so well together.
**** it, I'm gonna post a bunch of live **** from them: YouTube - Nine Inch Nails - Wish: Live, DTS 5.1 Surround Version YouTube - Nine Inch Nails 'March of the Pigs' ((Live from AATCHB)) YouTube - happiness in slavery (live) YouTube - NIN - The Great Destroyer live in Europe, Aug 2007 YouTube - Nine Inch Nails Gave Up ((Live from AATCHB)) (The lights during the finale of this video are phenomenal) YouTube - NIN - the mark has been made Or you can just buy the And All That Could Have Been DVD that got put out 5 years ago. Which documents the Fragility 2.0 tour which, by the way, music critics named the best tour of 2000. |
The Darkness with JH were unfookin'believeable live, great stage show and great music!
Iron Maiden in '03 were class, it was the first time I've seen them, the second time was a let down though. Hammerfall was one of the most amazing nights ever! |
2006 I think, the setlist wasn't as good, and ya know the way it is when you have already seen a band.
Still a great gig though! |
i'll get back to this thread on april 13th after I've seen the Smashing pumpkins in february and Clinic in April
|
In that case I'll be getting back to after I see the Pumpkins in Ireland and Satch in May :D
|
You going to Pumpkins in Dublin?
Apparently they suck nowadays live:( |
Quote:
:D j/k |
haha.
A friend went to see them in San Fran so thats where I got that from. |
The Showdown. Bar none the best live performance I've ever seen. They don't play any 2 shows exactly the same way. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are pretty amazing live as well. Besides those, though, I think the best live shows I've seen have been mostly local bands from my area. Embracing Goodbye kill. Injun Joe are amazing, as are A Candlelight Massacre, The 7 Method, Narallis, Unending Blame, Dathan, and Bloodline Severed. Loxstep were good while they lasted. Black Rose Mourning are pretty amazing. Chocha Loca are great blues rock.
|
The Good the Bad and the Queen - best NEW live band imho
|
I saw the Smashing Pumpkins several months ago, and they completely blew me away. I was amazed. Billy Corgan has such a unique voice, and it totally completes the band. They have been around for a while too.
|
Wishbone Ash have never disappointed.
