Bad yet Good Lead Singers....

Ever realized that some lead singers like Axl Rose from GNR and The lead singer from Ac/DC wouldnt've gotten very far without angus or slash? I was listenin to back in back the other day and was liek woah.. he sucks yet it sounds so amazing.. any other bands like this? or do you think the lead singers could've gone far by themselves

If you mean Bon Scott i disagree , I heard the band he was in before AC/DC (The Valentines) and his voice was the only decent thing about them.

If you mean Brian Johnson he was in a band called Geordie in the 70s who released a string of album throughout that decade and had several top 10 hit singles.

So you are wrong in both cases :D

TheBig3 11-27-2007 08:52 AM

And Axl could sing his ass off. Slash should not be under sold but "no where?"....man.

I just thought of this. Only Urban would know of and have heard Bon Scott's first band.

How many warlocks CD's do you have?

TheCaster 11-27-2007 09:26 AM

Ah, i never listened to any of their other band things, and by bad i meat kind of a rough raw voice like they couldnt sing that well without music behind them. Both of them are great singers but if they sang without music they would'nt be all that great..

I've noticed that sometimes....like listening to music that I like and thinking that the singer wouldn't be able to pull off something acapella. Really its just that his/her voice is interesting and fits the music.

TheCaster 11-28-2007 11:44 AM

precisely

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-28-2007 11:55 AM

Depends what you are looking for in a vocalist.

Bon Scott's voice for example is full of character. When he tells you he slept with a 17 stone woman or got in a fight in a bar or spent years wandering around with no money trying to make it in the music industry you believe him because he had the conviction & sincerity in his voice to project that. He wasn't technically brilliant but then with those kind of songs he didn't need to be , and would sound unconvincing otherwise.

TheCaster 11-28-2007 12:37 PM

Which is what i meant by they wouldnt be anywhere without the guitarists. like if htey didnt have those kind of songs then they would suck

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 11-28-2007 01:18 PM

^He's not referring to the guitars, he's referring to the type of songs they wrote in general. When you're singing about the stuff that Bon Scott sang about in AC/DC, you don't need to be all that technically skilled. Hell....I would probably find entertainment in Bon Scott reading me a damn Harry Potter book in the voice he sang with. Anyway, the point is, it's not about the guitarists.

Now...Kurt Cobain would have just sounded like a whiny crack addict if he hadn't been backed by the music that Nirvana played.

And as great of a lyricist he is, and how well his voice fits their music, Geoff Rickly (Thursday) would probably sound horrible on his own.

Brian Johnson and Axl Rose have cool voices... They are unique and can not be duplicated. What makes them so great is that they are brilliant front men. They can work the crowd and belt it out and that is what they do. Ever been to a GNR or ACDC concert? I have, Appetite and Razor's Edge... OMFG!

I absolutely detest buns and toasties. Always have and always will. I remember their T-shirts were on every other person back in87/88. Even those who did'nt know who they were!

I saw them around 93/94 (My first ever all day festival :D )
They were headlining , they were absolutely awful.

Thankfully the Cult made it worthwhile

Whelp, that is why opinions are like... Everyone has one. Compared to some of the stuff that spews forth from the radio nowadays, they are Mozart. So... Some like em some don't. Now I don't like the "New" GNR. It's funny that it takes 3 guitars to replace Slash ans Izzy! LOL Oh well...

Ahh thanks for finding words for me :) And that and the fact that you can actually tell they were high when they wrote thier songs is why i dont like nirvana

Mangus65 08-23-2008 06:57 PM

Dude,

Brian Johnson and Bon Scott rock! Brian especially rocked the Back In Black album and likely damaged his voice touring to promote AC/DC's Back In Black album.

The dude sang and helped write the lyrics to one of the best selling albums of all time.

How could Angus and Malcolm fire a guy like Brian. He's super cool and works hard. AC/DC could sell almost anything now so who cares.

Axel Rose kicked ass too. I mean he had some quirks like that R,R stuff but hey he also helped write some killer songs.

But Axel isn't anybody now days Slash is still working. The dude just had personel issues.

Dave Chapel isn't working anymore either but he kicked ass too. Doesn't mean he wasn't great, he just quit. I know he isn't a musician but he made a great comparison to make this point lol.

Led Zepplin didn't get high when they wrote their songs lmfao. (your sig pic)

I mean come on you don't like songs that were written by high musicians? You must like classical music then. How many rock stars don't get high all day long? :banghead:

I still ever so slightly want to rip Robert Plant's eyes out. Slightly.

Personally I'm a big David Byrne fan but I think his style of singing is absolutely atrocious. Kind of an oxymoron, but w/e.

joyboyo53 08-25-2008 01:58 PM

nothing sticks out like a sore thumb more than anthony kedis. i mean dont get me wrong, i love rhcp, but its safe to say hes the least talented in the group.
