4 String Bass

****, listen to koRn - right now (watch the video to if you get the chance, youtube it), the bass in this song is fukin amazing, do u guys know of any other bands that use the same bass effect?

Same bass effect being four strings....?
Dude,
Thats incredible.

That has a pretty mediocre bassline. In fact, judging from all the Korn I've ever had to be subjected to, Fieldy is a rather uncreative bassist. His click-click-click is a sad excuse for a bassline. Ignoring melody doesn't make you a good bassist.

The one note bassline belongs to Billy Gould (Faith No More) who uses it properly, but Fieldy abuses it to no end.

Faith No More ftw

Try Geddy Lee for some real basslines

What is this "4-string bass" you speak of?

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-17-2007 09:40 PM

this thread is actually embarassing.

Honestly, I must say, you could remove the 3 highest strings on their bassist's bass and he could still play the basslines.

And him slapping it makes it no more interesting to me. Just makes the bass more prominent in the wrongest way. The right way would be making more creative bass lines.

Korn is good, but not really difficult or challenging.

You can tune a 5/6-string bass in many different keys, compared to other instruments with less effort, and without effects on the bass, compared to other instruments. Bass lines for me are to learn from the best of the best, wthin every style, artist era, etc. of all music/bassist, etc. Taking the string off would be like, (drinking or huffing piss) I can tell that you are a bass fan, And I can relate to you VOS, (The talent used by some of todays mainstream music). 4-strings today, with most modern styles, are mostly obsolete for correct basslines, etc. Bass scales are mainly the opposite of guitar scales. You shouldnt play a bass like a guitar in other words. (only my opinion)
