Cool The Metalcore Discussion Thread

On other message boards that I belong to, some people bash this genre.
First it was nu-metal now this. A lot of newer bands are put into this category. There are some good metalcore bands out there IMO, you can't bash this whole genre. Some bands that are called metalcore, sound hardcore to me.

Anyone have an opinion on this subject?

I think that saying all artists of a specific genre, are one thing, is a rash generalization. It's bad enough that artists are clumped into a catagory, when pretty much everyone has a definition that differs from the next person's opinion.

That's because metalcore's a very badly defined genre. A band can be 95% hardcore and 5% metal (or vice versa) and still be called metalcore. Killswitch Engage are an example of a band who are about 95% metal and 5% hadcore, and they get called metalcore.

I think that someone who subscribes to this forum, should take it upon themselves to create a "genre-nator". This "genre-nator" would have all of the specifications so one could select the correct genre, to describe an artist. Anyone comprehend? (Example: Metal: Lots of lead guitar, some guitar solo's, low levels of screaming, and morbid lyrics. This, of course, is -not- an acceptable definition, and I am obviously not qualified to begin the construction of the afore mentioned "genre-nator".)

Do you even comprehend yourself? This doesn't make any sense.

Yes, I do understand what I wrote. I admit, I'm not very good at explaining things, but maybe my second try will be more successful. I propose someone makes a genre search engine. Maybe not one person, but multiple, so the definitions can be agreed upon. Baisically, someone needs to correctly define, or catagorize, aw hell, choose your word, genre's and the bands that are within them.

Catagories suck, but not Darkest Hour! They are by far the best "metal-core" band I can think of. Between The Buried And Me is really good too.
