Colors
I went and saw Between the Buried and Me on Saturday night. So first I'll evaluate the show and then I'll talk about the new album.
The Hoedown - Local generic metalcore band. Aren't very good. I didn't even get to the show until they were tearing down. The End - Horrible band. Not only did they not fit in with the rest of the bands on the tour, but they straight up sucked. Bland riffs, bad vocals...needless to say I didn't sit through their entire set. Animosity - They were more than I expected. Nothing really appealed about them, but they were solid in terms of their songwriting. I didn't like the vocals all that much though. Their drummer was pretty good, I'll give them that. Horse the Band - I wasn't expecting these guys to be good at all. I was pleasantly surprised, as they put on a really good show. They're crazy on stage. Pretty strong sound, the guitarist screwed up a few times, but overall, they were probably the strongest supporting band. Between the Buried and Me - Pretty damn epic. A lot of people didn't like the show because except for Selkies, they played all new stuff. They played through "Colors" in its entirety. I like how they're showing a lot of variety in their new music. It goes from metal to jazz, even has a little country-ish stuff on it. So they basically played without stopping for about 45 minutes, took a minute long break during which people chanted "B - T - BAM" incessantly. They came back out, closed with Selkies, and that was it. Overall, it was a great show. If you've seen Between the Buried and Me, you know what I'm talking about. I was on the rail, directly in front of Paul the entire time. Great stuff. So, now the album. Like I said, they're drifting away from the metalcore thing. Their roots still show through in every single song on the album, but so do their jazz influences. Their songs are becoming far more complex (hard to believe, I know) and "Colors" is really an interesting album to listen to. All of the songs flow together (flawless transitions, which is why they played for 45 minutes straight...or however long the cd is.) Their style really shows through on this album. Anyone else seen them recently, heard/have the album (or want it), have any opinion?

I really liked Colours..amazing album. The flow as though its all one song is really cool. BTBAM is really the only "metalcore" band that I listen to at all.

I downloaded Colors earlier today, unaware that it is their new album. I'll give it a full through listen tomorrow.
I haven't really listened to these guys much before, but I've always heard of them being one of the most talented metalcore bands out there, and decided today that I should give them a listen. |

Colors is one of the best records to happen to the metalcore scene since Converge's Jane Doe.
It's explosive, progressive, brutal, beautiful, technical, emotional; simply ****ing brilliant. Viridian into White Walls is the best 16 minutes of music I think I've ever heard.

I love the transfer in the first track. The growls don't sound tacked on and just sound so natural.

I really dug this album, I was a bit turned off when they went into that country sound for a bit, was just "meh" to me. But it's definitely more than I was expecting, really solid all the way through, flows well, couldn't ask for much more.

^Yeah, especially seeing as his singing voice isn't all that deep. The singer for my buddies' band is like that. When you hear him talk, you would never think that he had the kind of growl/scream that he does.
Before this most recent show, the last time I had seen BTBAM was on the Radio Rebellion tour here in San Diego.
