Again you can't say they fail. John Petrucci easily has to be ONE of the greatest guitarists ever. Mike Portnoy is a good drummer, though not really near the best. John Myung is a crazy bass player.
You are just using doublethink to shove off every possibility that they are good. |

Regardless of what I think of Dream Theater, John Myung is a wonderful bassist. It goes without saying that he is technically insane, but he doesn't overplay at all. He has great feel and melodic sense... look up Solar Groove on youtube.

Being technically proficient does not make you a good musician, as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather listen to, say, Kurt Cobain play guitar than listen to John Petrucci play guitar. John's obviously very technically skilled, but he's boring to listen to. I have yet to hear one Dream Theater song that was memorable at all (and I have listened to three or four of their albums, and watched a few videos on YouTube). So, in short: - Technical proficiency does not make you a good musician. - A band's technical proficiency does not automatically make them enjoyable to watch. As a result... Dream Theater fails on both counts. |

I believe they are quite good...Just an opinion
Okay Dream Theatre is a touchy group, their stuff can be debated at times as less metal more rock or metal orchestra, a personal favourite of mine is "Change of Seasons" I Think that is such a good song like the guys playing the instruments are good, like really good and they should be deemed brilliant for thinking of a song that long and good. It all depends on what you persoanlly like...This thread got my attention because it asked, "How Much Do You Hate Dream Theatre?" You can't ask a bunch of people how much they hate something you have to ask what do you think of Dream Theatre? But personally i was apaulled when i saw that 41.5 or w.e percent thought they were not all that good. You gotta admit they must have some talent if they were playing alongside Megadeth, Dillinger Escape plan, Fear Factory and other bands of great reputation (well maybe megadeth does not have such a great rep. but still...) you understand?
