The Official John Frusciante Thread
Discography 1994 Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt 1997 Smile From the Streets You Holdl 2001 To Record Only Water for Ten Days From the Sounds Inside 2004 Shadows Collide With People The Will to Death Inside of Emptiness A Sphere in the Heart of Silence 2005 Curtains --------------------------------- I love John Frusciante's creative playing probably more than another other guitar player in history. I believe he's on par with Hendrix. (a modern day Hendrix) Not only does he have tons of great solo albums but all of his RHCP music from Mothers Milk on is fantastic. Please tell me your opinion on him as well...!? |
I don't agree with the Hendrix thing at all, but he is one of the best of the generation indisputably and certainly ranks high on my list, although their music is so mellow it often bores me, they need horns!!!

edit:i made the hendrix comparison because he is mainly influenced by him, and has taken many methods of playing that hendrix started and expanded greatly on them |
I don't think his playing is boring, just the whole mood of the music since like 2000 or so. Californication was a good album but I got tired of it quickly and haven't listened to it in like 5 years. I am not a fan of his solo stuff, but not an unfan either, I just haven't gotten heavily into it, I have been in like a two year Soul\Blues\Jazz Folk rock phase so guitar music is not at the top of my list. I would not diss the Chili Peppers I think they are among the top 50-60 bands ever, and John is a big part of why, but comparing him to Hendrix is probably a stretch. Start with Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton etc.

Frusciante's a better guitarist than all three of them IMO. And yeah, I can understand the Hendrix comparison. John does get a bit Hendrix-esque at times. Really...explosive.
He's one of my favourites anyway. Love his work with RHCP, love his solo albums (especially Niandra and To Record Only Water). |
John Frusciante is amazing, I don't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers but I love his solo albums. To Record Only Water For Ten Days is my favorite.

Yea, i got your point. Its hard to really even debate this, mainly because of the time gap between the to, and the changing styles of playing and modern music.

He for sure channels and imitates Hendrix at times; and better then most including myself and my 30+ years of trying to can.
I'd put him right now with the final chapters of his prime still unwritten somewhere between 10-25 on my list of favorite Great Guitarists |
