anyone else struggling with determining what the Peppers' best album is? I'm torn between Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Freaky Styley. on one hand BSSM is the album that basically got me into music, on the other Freaky Styley is possibly the funkiest **** released in 1985.

adding to the Frusciante convo, Shadows Collide WIth People and To Only Record Water For Ten Days aren't too much "drug induced screaming" if that's not what you're looking for.

damn, you pretty much took the words right out of my head haha although lately i've been on an 'uplift mofo party plan' kick when it comes to the peppers. to be honest i'd rather not have a particular best album and just jump between the 4 discs between Freaky Styley and BSSM as my mood sees fit. |

Out of their early music, Uplift Mofo all the way. Not only is the music good, but I find it an interesting album because it is the only one with all 4 truly original members on it.

probably the best lyrics on the album, too. on that note, it's a shame kiedis isn't as good a lyricist as you'd hope, especially now that they've moved away from that rapping-funk style and into the Stadium Arcadium alterna-rock. he has gotten better, though. haven't listed to that album was much as the other early-on stuff. i'll have to listen to that later.

Oh man if they kicked out the punk / funk again I'd totally be back on board, but their more recent Alt - rock stylings kinda make them fade into th background a fair bit...

Funk Metal... Indeed that steel can sure work itself into a funk!
