Sometimes great musicians don't gell well with other great musicians, sometimes the chemestry just isn't there.
RHCP had it, Chickenfoot don't. And if post DLR-Van Halen has taught us anything, when all else fails, blame Sammy Hagar. |

I don't get supergroups.
You take 4 amazing musicians like the ones in chickenfoot, and it turns out to be a boring band. You take the seemingly mediocre musicians from Rx Bandits, the awful singer from Chiodos, and Anthony Green and you get the amazing Sound of Animals Fighting. The hell.

the hiatus is based on something flea said that's repeated on wiki
as for supergroups i think the main difference between gunnels' examples is. chickenfoot is trying to do something. they want to show those wacky kids today what 'real' rock music is about don't cha kno'? which will always fall flat and come off as incredibly contrived. that clip sounded like everything nickelback could ever dream of accomplishing to my ears. on the other hand there are plenty of 'supergroups' that form out of the remainders of other defunct bands. they get called 'supergroups' because the members all had some modicum of public recognition in the past but ultimately they're just forming another band with other musician's, not unlike just about any other band out there. just so happens that the members all have a bit more experience than that dude working at your local music store. |
