I like Stadium Arcadium, but I can't help but feel that it sounds a bit contrived in parts. But they'll never again reach the greatness of BSSM IMO - it's a very high target to aim for if they were to try. Good mixture of songs though - I just wish people wouldn't judge by singles.

I agree it does sound contrived, but with what that band has been through since their inception; i'm still pleased to get any output from them at all. Still probably the best live act I have ever seen.

Under the bridge and I could've lied are my favousrites. Blood sugar sex is a great album as is by the way. Californication had good singles, not so keen on it as a whole album same with Mothers Milk.
If you are Chilis fans check out Lahayna they play rock/funk type of music, saw them at the ULU a few months back, great live show |

I am suprised to hear you say it is the best live act you have ever seen. Not that I dont love me some good RHCPs. I saw them live and enjoyed the show, but it just wasnt MOVING like some shows are. Maybe if it was back like 10 -15 years ago when you saw them I could see it being amazing... but at Coachella last May I was just like 'hmmph sweet show, whos playing tomorrow?', as opposed to oggling over how amazing the set was.

Ridiculous? How?
I find that a lot of their songs stick to the same kind of formula... it's difficult to explain but easy to hear. They tend to use the same rhythm time and time again. I think that's the main problem. And Kiedis sings to the exact tune of the backing music in almost every song instead of moving about a bit to give some variation. Can't Stop would be the best example of the thing I'm talking about here. |

Most singers stick to the backing music, and you'd be hard pressed to find a mainstream rock band today that switches up time signatures. They incorparate a wide variety of musical styles, including funk, rock, phsychedelia, punk, and pop.
